Come from a challenging Jesuit HS (Boston College HS) that has a high acceptance rate into UMASS Amherst.

I'm not too concerned about scholarships, considering its already a reach, but what are my chances and how can I help them leading up to applying?

Yeah, GPA is the issue. Go all out to finish up strong this year. Next year can’t help you much for EA. But EA is just the first step to RD if you’re deferred to EA. Nothing to lose by taking SAT again. It’s not bad at all, but if went up to 1800, it could help. You get to count all your best scores unless they’ve changed the rules. Don’t neglect to apply to other UMass schools, as they are pretty good. Worst case scenario, you don’t get in and then go to Comm College to show your stuff for later application. Good luck.
