Im a Freshman in high school with a 3.6 GPA. Next year I take Pre - Calc because I’m taking Algebra II in the summer. The only classes I have a C+ - B+ are Spanish and English. What are my chances and What should I do? I really need help I want to get Straight A’s starting next year.
Neither am I taking any AP’s next year but I will be in 4 accelerated classes.
To be honest, right now your chances are looking slim. However, you are just a freshman still and colleges will be okay with the C if they see an upward trend. My advice would be to take the most rigorous course load you can handle and to excel in them. It would be a good idea to take some APs and honor classes.
Try striving for As by minimizing procrastination, studying for tests more in advance, and asking for help from tutors or teachers.
Good luck!
It is way too early to think about specific colleges (especially the hyper-competitive ones). You have a one year GPA and you have no standardized testing.
It is good to take school seriously and know that college will be on your horizon, but it is too early to start planning for specific colleges or group of colleges. I would highly recommend that you get off of CC until your junior year.
For now you should focus on:
–Working hard, learning, and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Get involved in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.
When the time comes asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be excited to attend. You need to expand your horizons past the top 25 or so schools and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
Get straight A’s from your Sophomore year on, some universities don’t even include 9th grade grades.
