Buuump
Ignore tue CSS stuff, it got taken care of :)

Your ECs and GPA look really strong, but your standardized test scores may be a bit low. If you can raise your ACT and your SAT subject tests you will be much more competitive. Definetly apply though if it’s where you want to go!

Please chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1234291-chance-alaskan-top-schools.html

To even 2300, or 34 (ACT) applicants, Harvard is a crapshoot. Prepare for rejection. Your unique background can only go so far. You have to know that as kind of unique you are, there is bound to be more unique people out of a pool of 35,000+.

My advice: go to UC Berkeley. :)

BUMPppppppppp

SAT 2s and ACT are low. Afghan American + first - gen will help you. You have a shot, but I don’t think your SAT and ACT will be there in time, so without those your chance is very low.

… Darn… I just don’t know… What is it about those tests?

BuiuummpPpppppp

Basically, I think if you could get your ACT to the 33+ range, you have an above average to good shot, with your first-generation and extracurriculars. If your new score was not significantly better, then your chances drop quite a bit.

I pray I received at least a 32 then. I hate these tests so much. I am smart, but something about these tests scare me so much that I keep messing up and getting bad scores. Well, what about UChicago? That my second school. LOL

“I am a woman first generation Afghan American with both parents from Afghanistan. On top of that, I am the first woman to have ever received an education in my family.”

You know what?
I actually believe that you have decent chances at top colleges.

First generation Afghan woman!
Now, that is something VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND.

I hope you will get an opportunity to study at Harvard or Chicago.

Good luck to you.

Thank you
I am really counting on my URM status to help me out :)

bummmmmmmppppp :)

From what I understand, the definition of URM is
"
American Indians/Alaskan Natives, African Americans/Blacks, Mexican Americans, and Puerto Ricans are typically considered URM’s. "
Now, if you came to this country when you were a teen and fled afghanistan and did all this, that would make the AdComs look up. But if you were born in the USA, you had as much opportunity as any other US citizen and I am not sure you would fall in the typical URM category.

oh… sorry. I thought i was… my bad :)

I believe Afghans are URMs. They don’t necessarily have as much opportunity as any other US citizen, just like any other URM group, which is the whole point of affirmative action.

Bbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmpppppppppp

You have a nice hook but I don’t see it getting you into Harvard unless you get higher scores.

It’s a possibility. First things I notice - what is your socioeconomic status? Not just where are you from should be emphasized. Secondly? Where are the APs or IB level classes? If your school does not offer them fine. But if they have them, why have you not taken the tests? Thirdly, you have significant extracurricular accomplishments. Highlight which ones are local, regional, or national accomplishments. Grades look good. Standardized testing is sub-par for Harvard.

Yeah, my school is too small for AP, IB, or even Honors classes. I have taken the hardest curriculum I could though including like 7 dual credit classes
