I really really really would like to know if I can make it into my dream school. Could you guys please tell me if my dream is possible? I am a senior in high school and have just sent my EA APP to Harvard.

I am a woman first generation Afghan American with both parents from Afghanistan. On top of that, I am the first woman to have ever received an education in my family and I speak Pashto fluently.
I am current President of Student Council, President of International Student Exchange, and President of Math and Science Club. Last year I was Junior Class President, Secretary of International Student Exchange, * * and a representative of the Junior class for Student Council.
I am also Vice President of Drama Club and National Honor Society
I have been in Band since 5th grade and am the clarinet section leader. I have recently been selected to play in the National FFA Band. I have been first chair clarinet since Freshman year.
I have ran track and cross country for 4 years.
In District Speech I placed 3rd in Radio and in State Speech I placed 5th in Radio.
I am ranked 1 of 55, have received 4 A- in my entire high school career, the rest being straight A's, and have a 4.48 GPA. I also have taken the hardest curriculum available to me at my small school.*
I have only a 30 ACT but hopefully it has gone up since the last test date.*
I only have a US Hist :720
World Hist: 640
Literature: 630
In sat ii land
Oh and I almost forgot. I am reigning County Fair Queen.
I volunteer in the summer too. And I teach my uncles how to read and write English*

My essays are supposedly superb. I wrote one about me being the first woman to receive any education in my family. I even end it with something my mother always told me to inspire me, but is was in Pashto so I have it in both Pashto and English. My other essay is about my father being a translator for the military and how I have become more mature since his departure.

unfortunately, it is highly likely you won’t be admitted unless you present some fantastical hook to compensate heavily for the test scores. you have to realize you are competing with the best of the best from all over the world.

I always roll my eyes at “fantastical hook.” Yeah, you better have invented a vaccine that cures cancer, AIDS, and pre-frosh know-it-all-ism all at once, and you better have done it while being a first-generation immigrant from Mars.

You don’t need some huge, elaborate backstory. You have strong qualities and weaknesses just like any other applicant. Yeah, your test scores aren’t perfect, but they’re not terrible either, and they may have even gone up. Your academic performance at your school has been good, and I feel like you can bring a different perspective on your application with your background as long as you don’t get too trite about it.

Basically, Harvard is a tough school for anybody to get into, but you’re not crazy for applying. I definitely know people who were worse off than you who got in, so it’s not nearly as much of a longshot as the other posters are making it out to be. Even if you don’t get into Harvard, I think you’ll land at a good school that you’ll really enjoy.

Well. This is uplifting. I sent the new ACT to them. IDK what it is, but should they get it in time for consideration? It was the October series.

This is really impressive and I disagree with some people on this thread. If the ACT score improves, I’d say you have a good shot especially with the first-generation education thing and the plentiful leadership.

Even with EA, it marginally helps. I do wish you make it in, but maybe try some other ivy leagues if you want that suit your interest, and always have a backup, even if it isn’t top 10 in the nation.
I think you have a chance, 30 is a bit low, but if the average is like a 33, some people must have gotten below.

The ACT composite score for Harvard is 31-34. So although your score is a tad low, I really don’t think they’ll reject you merely for your low test scores. Of course, this is Harvard, so I really don’t know.

Anyway, the bad news is that 93% of Harvard applicants are rejected. So yes, you should mentally prepare yourself for rejection. The good news: 7% of applicants ARE accepted. Although this is low, who knows, it could be you!

Harvard has so many super qualified applicants that it is impossible to really “chance” you, sorry I definitely wouldn’t rule you out, but I agree with plzbefriend: you should apply for other Ivy Leagues, as well. And make sure you apply for at least 2 safety schools. If you’re unsure about what other colleges to apply to, I would highly recommend The Best 373 Colleges by the Princeton Review. It gives great insight on a huge variety of schools, and was really helpful in my college search.

Thank you everyone
But I just found out something. I am the first person in my family to apply for a school. My father was simply offered upenn in Afghanistan. So I didnt know about CSS until last night when looking around cc. What do I do? My parents only made 35,000 after tractor expenses and I thought finical aid deadline was in may…
