I am currently a 9th grader but i aspire to attend ivy league universities.
My classes are mostly honors but i want to pursue a business path so i am taking economics courses and planning on taking AP economics. My school offers a 4 year plan and i already signed up for about 6 AP’s. I am on the JV Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, and Badminton. My grades are mostly A’s with some B+ but it is understandable because i am taking 10th grade courses.
Extracurriculars/ what makes me different:
-From the middle east
-I will be taking AP French
I taught myself Russian
National Golf Team
Founded a golf organization that teaches children with special needs how to play golf
Student council
A lot of experience in MUN
-Founder and President of a afterschool french tutoring club
Creating an Entrepreneurship club in my school
I go to different boarding schools over the summer such as Le Rosey and Philips Exeter Academy
Passionate about entrepreneurship
Please mention anything else i should do if i would like to follow the business path and what universities i should be looking at if i end up meeting my anticipated cumulative GPA of 4.2 (weighted) 3.9 (unweighted). GPA was calculated based off of how i am doing in the classes that i am taking now and my previous knowledge of the classes i will be doing in the future which gives me an edge. ex: I will be studying economics and chemistry in a boarding school this summer, and i will take those classes next year.
@HBarrak Good to have a dream, but starting by making excuses for yourself: " My grades are mostly A’s with some B+ but it is understandable because i am taking 10th grade courses." is not a good idea. B+'s in 9th grade won’t prohibit your admittance to those schools, but thinking that the schools will just discount the grades because they were advanced 1 grade level is simply wrong. Most of the kids applying will have taken extensive accelerated course work and received top grades. Those Ivy league schools you’re interested in will even receive a fair number of applications every year from students receiving A’s in college level courses taken in 9th grade.
Like what @tdy123 said, you cant make excuses for lower grades in higher classes. If you’re in those classes at a lower grade, then you’re expected to know that stuff and therefore have higher grades. Second, your question is essentially impossible to answer without SAT or ACT scores. Once you take those, then you’ll have an idea of your chances, because those are a MAJOR part of your application. So I would advise you to relax and not ask this question until you’ve taken the SAT or ACT in junior year. Thinking about Ivies in 9th grade will give you ulcers.
I’d say most of the things you listed that “make you different” (or your EC’s) don’t really make you stand out at all, and wouldn’t even consider it an EC, such as going to boarding schools over the summer (summer programs like these don’t really help for college admissions, its more just an experience) as well as teaching yourself Russian. Without your GPA or SAT, none of us can say your chances, but know that ivies are crapshoots for EVERYONE.
