What are my chances in ivy leagues?

I’m only a grade 9 in high school. In my school, honors and AP and IB does not start until grade 10. I know that extracurricular activities count as well but… Here are my grades so far:

First Term:
English: 91
Social Studies (we don’t have history): 91
Math: 92
Science: 90
French: 94
Band: A
Gym: A
Health: A

Second Term:
English: 91
Social: 91
Math: 95
Science: 93
French: 94
Band: A
Gym: A
Health: A

Also, a person says my grades are too low. :frowning: I care a lot about what other people think.

I am also a freshman  , and I will be taking calc next year as a soph. I feel your pain with AP classes… Those grades are slightly low, but many top schools look for improvement, and like that better than someone who is stagnant.

The general environment on College confidential, it seems, for freshman in high school, is to wait and see what the next years bring us (which is a little annoying…), but it’s good advice.

Otherwise, if you are in a lot of extra curriculars, volunteer, etc, you should have a shot. Just don’t expect your changes to be anything above the 10% acceptance rate most have [-X

Your grades are too low…? Which ones?
You are worrying way, way too much.

Q: What are my chances in ivy leagues?

A: No one knows.

  1. You're in 9th grade. You just don't have enough data to go on.
  2. You haven't taken an SAT or ACT. You don't know how you compare to students who apply and are admitted to the Ivy League.

“I care a lot about what other people think.”

Not a good sign.

These are the typical responses a freshman gets… :-@

@siguy27,

Other responses are generally puffery.

Very true… (Nice vocab)

I don’t see how being told to wait is annoying. It is literally impossible to tell based upon freshman grades how you will fair, esp with schools like ivy league.

Try to get straight A’s through HS. It helps to be Valedictorian.
Plan to study, study, study, for the SAT. Score 2300+.
Pick a small number of ECs and get really into them. Be an officer, do well in interstate competitions, etc.

These things can raise your profile from “minimally qualified” to “competitive with 25,000 of the other applicants for the 5,000 available seats.”
