What are my chances for one of the better UC's?

I really screwed up freshman year. I got a D, 3 C's, 2 B's and just 1 A. I am currently a sophomore. I also got a 2.83 first semester of this year. Right now, I have straight A's in this semester. Next year I am taking AP English, AP Chem, and APUSH. If i continue to get straight A's for the rest of high school, will I still have a good chance at getting into one of the better UC's or are my chances over due to my Freshman and half of Sophomore year?

Also, the D was in an elective class thats not a-g(don't ask how I got a D, please)

If by “better UC’s”, you’re referring to UCB, UCLA, and UCSD, then don’t count on it unless you have a good explanation for that D and the C’s. I’d aim for a low/mid UC if I were you.

Well what about ucsb, irvine, and davis?

^Those sound more like it. I mean, if you can seriously show the upward trend and maintain straight A’s the rest of high school, then you may be able to pull off one of the top 3. Just know that your freshman GPA didn’t do anything to help your class rank or cumulative GPA.
