I am a junior and would like to get into Oxford of Emory.

My current stats:
3.2 gpa (uw)
3.4 weighted

sat
620 reading, 780 math, 650 writing

some extracurriculars (builders club, chess club)
varsity spring track (i'll continue this yr and next yr)

I don't know if it helps but I'll be the first in my family to attend college in the US.
I'm southeast asian more specifically burma(myanmar) and I'm the only one at my high school with this ethnicity.

I’m basing this on my experience with Emory, my cousin attends. Many visits to the campus and contact with students etc.

I think that Emory might be a BIIIIT of a reach, and Oxford is a little bit easier, but not by much. The only time a person is a shoo in is if they have a GPA slightly above that of the average UW GPA. at Oxford College it’s a 3.5 . Your SATs seem decent enough.

I think you would have a chance somewhere over 60%, but not quiet a shoo in. I think it would be worth applying, considering you have a pretty good chance.

Your GPA is really low for Oxford @ Emory. Your SAT scores are really good, though. Did you have any leadership roles in your ECs? Did you take any AP classes? Oh, and by the way, colleges only accept more people EA/ED because students who apply at that time are generally more academically competitive.

Are you a refugee? Were you part of an ethnic minority in Burma that was persecuted? Did you live in a refugee camp? Were you unable to attend school in Burma or the country where your refugee camp was located? If any of these are true, could you highlight this in your essay? It seems to me like colleges might pay attention to your special circumstances and realize that your GPA is excellent for an ESL student. Additionally, you could help educate the admissions officers about what has been going on in your home country. The world needs to be more aware of this! Additionally, you are a motivated striver and colleges need more people like you! Good luck!
