What are my chances for the UCs, BU, Norwestern, and more?

Hello! I am a senior this year, and I'm pretty much finished with my college list. I know it's long, but please chance me!

I'm interested in journalism.
GPA: UW 3.6 (most likely will graduate with 3.7)...I think my weighted GPA will mostly likely be 4.2-4.3
Current Rank: My school ranks only Valedictorian and Salutatorian, but I’m probably the top 20-25%
I attend the #1 school in the state, and according to US News, it is in the Top 40 Best High School in the U.S.

AP classes sophomore year: AP World History; I got a 2. Nobody in my grade got a 5. Almost everyone got a 2, and a handful received a 3 or a 4. Our teacher was not good at all.

AP classes junior year (current year): AP Language and Composition (3), AP Spanish Language and Culture (3), AP US History (3), AP Cambridge (4)

For people who don’t know what AP Cambridge is:
Our school is a part of the pilot program supported by Cambridge University. We're one of 20-30ish schools in the WHOLE world who has this program. It is a 2-year course (junior and senior year)

AP classes I plan on taking my senior year: AP English Literature, AP Gov(Fall)/Econ(Spring), AP Cambridge, AP Calc AB

I’m also taking journalism…most likely will be news editor

Community Service
***I haven't calculated my hours, but if you look at my Extracurriculars above, you can get an idea of how much

State: Tennessee (please don't find me and stalk me :))
School: Public magnet school (#1 in state, Top 40s in US)
Race: Asian American
Gender: Female
Income: $46,000-$50,000 annually
Father: Went to college
Mother: Didn't go to college
Sister: Has a master's degree

Colleges

REACH
-Northwestern- My DREAM choice- I don't think I have a good chance, but I'm obsessed with Northwestern. I'm still going to apply.
-UCLA
-UCB
-USC

MATCH
-UCSD
-Boston University
-Pepperdine
-UC Irvine

SAFE
-University of Tennessee in Knoxville
-Belmont University
-University of Georgia

Bump

Oh wow! I forgot to include my ACT/SAT scores.
I haven’t taken the SAT 2’s yet.
ACT- first 2 times, I got a 23…third time I got a 31

I’m thinking about taking the ACT one more time.

Wouldn’t say UCSD is a match OOS and I don’t think it would be affordable for you even if you got in or UCI for that matter. I also think Georgia is more of a match and I don’t think it will be cheap enough.

Honestly, You don’t have a great chance at any of your reaches, plus UCSD. Calculate your UC GPA to get a more accurate view of your chances at the UCs.

By the way AP Cambridge is more commonly known as AP Capstone, and, while I don’t know for sure, I sincerely doubt it is supported by Cambridge University in any way. UK has a negative view of the APs.

What stands out in your application is your community service. If you’ve done 400+ hours in your high school career, you stand a much better chance. Otherwise your ECs aren’t too special either.

Good job choosing great colleges for journalism and maintaining a range of schools.

@Woandering‌ I’m part of the pilot program, so Cambridge University does run the course. However, Collegeboard adopted it and changed it to AP Capstone.

Also, i know my reach schools are very reach-ish, I’m still trying to see if somehow I get in

@chillspot615 What is your goal in posting a chance thread here?

My son got into UCSD from out-of-state with similar stats.

If you are interested in Journalism, you should also be looking at schools like Missouri and UConn. UW-Madison also has a pretty good J school.

@prezbucky‌ yes! i was looking into missouri, and im thinking about applying there as well.

@Woandering‌ im hoping to gain an outside perspective about my choice of colleges before I begin the application process
@woogzmama‌ did your son get any scholarships/grants from UCSD?

We are from out-of-state, and our EFC came very close to the OOS costs of attending. UCSD only offered a small subsidized loan to meet our EFC. We were informed that we might qualify for the expanded middle-class aid program in the UC system, but would not be notified until July (much too late to matter). Bear in mind that the UCs will not cover the Out-of-State tuition surcharge under the middle-class tuition assistance program. The UCs offer very little in the way of merit aid to out-of-state students.

i think you can get into UCI and pepperdine. prob not UCLA and UCB…im in state cali and they are accepting more out of state cuz they want your money. all your reach schools are prob not likely. UCSD is unsure

Only true reaches are Northwestern, UCLA, UCB, and USC. Decent chance at UCLA if you send in your highest ACT score. Rest are matches! Good luck!
