Do I have good chance for honors too?
Chances for admission? Really good I would say! What school?
Chances for merit? Man this year’s merit haul was unpredictable! Who knows? Are you in-state for Pitt or OOS?
I’m from Virginia. I should also mention that I want to pre-med track (neuroscience undergrad) at main campus.
Can’t guarantee merit but yes to honors and some level of merit scholarship. My dd (hs class of '15) received full tuition for 35ACT but this past year, it’s been somewhat unpredictable. Good luck!
Thank you so much Amanda!
Also, for merit, does your ethnicity and income level matter?
GPA will be the limiting factor for Honors and merit. 3.5 UW seems relatively low when Pitt states that all of their merit award recipients had a 4.0 weighted GPA. Depending on the classes and the way Pitt weighs GPA, you may fall a bit short.
You do know to apply early to Pitt, right?
^^And make sure you put a lot of effort into the essays. They’re not optional if you want to get into the Honors Program.
@shortnuke is right. A lot will depend on your intended major. There was a student on this board for application season Fall 2018 who had a 3.4 UW GPA and a 35 ACT who was denied admission to engineering at Pitt.
IT’s hard to know how merit will shake out for you. In general it looks like it might be on the lower side for that GPA but there were a few who reported some surprise $$ this year. You absolutely should still apply. Apply EARLY. The application opens in late July or early August. Put some thought into your admissions short answers.
If you apply early, I don’t think there is a question that you will get in. I think people who apply late sometimes get rejected because the programs are full, even if their stats are good. I think the requirements are pretty strict for getting into honors with your admission. My D wasn’t invited in right away, but was in after one semester due to her good grades.
Thanks guys. One more question: Does UHC look at your extracurriculars also and the weighted GPA (4.3)?
Pitt definitely looks at WGPA for Honors, but it doesn’t look like EC’s are considered that much. Keep in mind that Pitt will use it’s own method to weigh GPA, so the 4.3 your school gives you may not match what Pitt considers to be your WGPA. I did a quick search, but couldn’t find anything official regarding how Pitt weighs honors, AP, IB, etc.
Keep in mind though that Pitt’s Honors Program is not as structured as some Honors Colleges at other universities.
Thank you guys! One more thing, does your intended major also impact your chances of getting into Pitt? I was thinking about applying for the neuroscience undergrad program and I am wondering if that could affect my chances.
