i know i've done more...i just can't remember right now

so what are my chances at these schools, and what should i do to improve?

Only two SAT IIs??? I thought most of those schools required three. Anyways, your look solid except for your ECs. I mean, other than running you don't do much in the way of ECs, and that will probably be the only thing that could hold you back. Did you try to get into track at any of those colleges because that could help you a lot. Its really hard to say chances, but I would say that you will probably get into some of the schools. To say which is almost impossible.

Im sure you'll get into most of thoses schools not counting HYPS. If only you had gotten a 1600 on the SAT then I could have told you that your chance is 40% in HYPS. But instead you got a 1590.

Retake your SAT IIs, especially Writing. Take one for a science as well (if you're pressed for time, which I don't think you are since you are a junior, take the one for Bio - I'm sure you know it's the easiest science test). Don't worry about your ECs, because they can be easily mended with a good essay. Assuming you get better SAT II scores, come out with a solid rank, and write a terrific essay, I think you have a really good chance in all those schools except for HYP.

ignore vshang, a 1590 is better than a 1600. college's love rejecting 1600s, especially HYPS. if you've ever been to an info session of those schools they can never help but mention that it's not all about test scores, then they give a stat about the # of 1600s they're rejected the last few years. You have a great shot at those places i would only say take math IIC your senior year but take it early so you can score well. also boost the ECs a little, even if it means creating a little ******** political club or something - you just need more to right on the app.

Colleges do not brag at all because they look at how well rounded you are. They reject 1600's for many reasons, maybe poor GPA which they see you as lazy. The only thing that Tim said that made sense was colleges do not look exclusively at test scores. A 1600 is better than any lower score, your logic is quite stupid Tim. Since you seem well rounded, I think you have an excellent chance.

Shinsplints - If it's the essay you're worried about on Writing, I have an effective way to study for it. Prepare an essay outline for every topic that's come out in the past. Of course, the essay prompt you receive will not be one of the past prompts, but the practice and knowledge (as in historical facts, excerpts from books to use) you obtain from making outlines for them will gurantee you do well on the actual essay. My friend and I did this, and we both got 800s on the first try.

I think you are ok to ECs...maybe you should volunteer at a hospital or something on the weekends. Think about it, she's a varsity runner, meaning practice every day all the time. Probabyl doesn't leave much time for ECs.

ur sat 2s are weak and u need more ECs. one EC is going to get u into these difficult schools. ur writing HAS to be higher. u are an asian minority. they love high scores on minorities. u want to improve that. u can improve ur chances by attaining 750+s on ur 3 SAT2s. u have to take 4 since the writing SAT 2 no longer counts.

vshang...colleges blatantly brag about how many 1600s they've rejected, and for you to say in the first place "If only you had gotten a 1600 on the SAT then I could have told you that your chance is 40% in HYPS. But instead you got a 1590" makes me laugh at its absurdity. even if what i said was wrong, which it clearly isn't, you would still claim that 10 points difference would sway the admissions committee?? you're out of your mind.

hey, doesn't change the fact that anyone who doesn't have a 1600 is insanely jealous of someone who does.

so, i'm noticing a pattern of more ec's...i suppose i can fit something in, but track season is starting up and i am doing the full ib program. maybe this summer, but i want to make some $$ lifeguarding. eh, this is stressfull

and i think i can take the sat2 writing if it's not too late to sign up for the late registration

actually, no. i just love running, and it helps that i'm good at it too. lol. but you are right about most "academics", esp for cross country. but the "academics" at our school join clubs, esp speech and debate

u won't get in to any of those schools, don't waste app money, i say use all your money to buy lottery, the chances you have getting in to any school with that kind of stats are less than the chances of you winning 20 million dollars in a lottery :P
