What are my Chances for UCLA??!

Hello!

I am applying from a CC for Fall '10 to UCLA, CAL, UCD, and UCSC.

I really wanna get into UCLA. My college does not offer a TAG which SUCKS

GPA: 3.85 (one B and one A-)
Major: English
E.C. : I don't have much, during high school I was really involved in a lot of activities:

Head Costume Designer for HS Theatre
Over 400 hours of Community Service
Recipient of Leadership Award from HS Admin
ASB Elected Officer
Publicity Manager for Literary Magazine club
Employed as a teacher's assistant and local private school

As of right now:
Currently employed in a Retail Store
I was published in the College's Literary Magazine
I am a Member of the college's Academic Honors Society. I took a lot of "Honors" courses will that make a difference?
Member of Phi Theta Kappa < don't know how much that will help

Does any of the high school stuff even matter?

Thanks!

i say a good chance with an awesome essay. Do you mean TAP or TAG? because there is no tag (guarantee) for ucla, only tap (priority). If there is a TAP/ honors program, you should do it because it would increase your chance of getting in.

lol you sound exactly like me. i’m an english major and i got in with the same gpa. i had no extracurriculars during cc, so i just listed everything i did during highschool (which wasnt much…you have TONS more!) i also listed phi theta kappa under the awards section. i would list the highschool stuff…dont know have much they really considered it, but might as well

i think the most important thing is to maintain that gpa and do PREREQS! (if you get in, you will be glad you did them)

like the previous poster, i agree that with a great essay you have a very good chance even with no tap

Yeah I meant TAP WHOOPS

But, thanks for the feedback!

Far as I’m aware, the admission staff does not take into consideration of any extracurricular activities done in high school. Actually, I’m quite confident this is the case for Cal, but it might be different for UCLA.

english at UCLA with a 3.85?

yeah right, man…

keep dreaming.
you’ll need, at the VERY least, a 3.97 to even be considered.
seriously, don’t even spend the $ on the app with a 3.85.

Now now, let’s not be too sarcastic. Otherwise some people will actually take you seriously and get a heart attack :(

[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](Transfer Profile — Fall 2023 | UCLA Undergraduate Admission)

If you look at the transfer profile, English has 45-50% acceptance rate with 3.65ish being the average GPA. So you can chillax. Just finish those pre-reqs, write something acceptable for your essay, and you’re a shoe-in.
