What are my chances for University of Michigan? McGill University?

Hey guys!

I just wanted to ask what you guys thought of my chances are of getting into University of Michigan or McGill University. I'm considering schools like UIUC, Notre Dame (probably too high), Maryland - College Park, IU (safety)...I want to go to University of Michigan the MOST and likely McGill second?

I am an international student here in Seoul, South Korea. I lived in Florida for 5 years...so basically I'm one of the most americanized Koreans you'll ever meet. Anyways...

My High School Career:

Freshmen GPA: 3.0
Sophomore GPA: 3.0
Junior GPA: around 3.4-3.5 for 1st semester but I'm aiming for a 4.0 2nd semester
Senior GPA: aiming for 4.1 - 4.2 GPA 1st semester...

I know my freshmen and sophore GPAs are terrible...I messed up.

Extracurriculars:

Varsity Tennis: 7th - 12th grade
11th - 12th grade Captain

BPC (FBLA) Business Club: 11th - 12th grade
11th grade Secretary
12th grade...likely President or another position

UNICEF: 9th - 10th grade
club changed to The Supply

The Supply: 11th - 12th grade
likely a position for 12th grade

MVP Tennis 9th - 12th grade
All Conference 9th - 12th grade

Community Service: 2 hours/week

TPL (type of community service) Teach Play Love: 5 hours/week

Outside of Country:

The Supply Kenya Trip
250 hours of volunteer service
Presidential Volunteer Service Award

In conclusion, I know my gpa is pretty bad but I really am an all around student with great extracurricular. My SAT practices around 1900-2000 for now. I hope to have it around 2000-2200 for application. I'm considering EA for University of Michigan. Would that help?

What do you guys think? Sorry this is so long...please give me any advice or feedback! THANKS GUYS:)

I’ll chance you at 3.5/2000.

UIUC: Match
Notre Dame: Reach
UMI: High match
UMD: Match
IU: Safety

Chancing for McGill is very major-heavy. Sure, you can get into McGill with a 2000 SAT but getting into McGill with a 2000 SAT requires at least a 650 on each subscore. They will not look at 9th grade so that’s a definite plus and I’m no longer using 3.5 but 3.6 then. BiomedE, biology, ChemE, MechE, management, arts & science and architecture are reaches, but everything else is match or better.

Thank you so much! I needed that! And McGill doesnt check freshmen year?? Thats relieving…
Also, do I HAVE TO apply with a major in mind?
I am also out of state…and international (Korean citizen)…but are my chances still what you say?
Thank you for the help! Really appreciate it.

Good luck! I think that you have a shot! McGill really only looks at standardized scores and GPA, so you don’t really have to worry about the other stuff for them. FYI. - their minimum GPA requriement is 3.7 (an A-) </p>

As far as McGill is concerned, you have to declare a major at the time of application. And, if you don’t take the ACT you have to take two SAT Subject Tests.

For the majors whose safety line is A-/650 each SAT subscore, it’s a high match, since there were people who got into, and attended, McGill with a little less than what’s on the school’s website but it wasn’t a safety to them. Otherwise, safety (at 3.6/2000). Unless, to the adcoms’ eyes, a system where A- is 3.5-3.6 existed, in which case it’s not a high match anymore.
