Hey, I’m currently a Junior in High School and I REALLY want to get into the University of Michigan, so I was wondering if I was on the right path. Keep in mind, I will most likely be applying for a Political Science major, so remember that when you are assessing (I know other majors like Biology or Engineering are harder to get into)
GPA: 3.54 (unweighted)
AP classes (haven’t tested in them yet, but I’m currently taking these classes)
- AP US History
- AP Lang and Comp
- AP US Gov
- AP Econ
- AP Env. Sci.
- AP Stats
I have no other honors classes because my school doesn’t offer AP/Honors until Junior year so
EC:
Model United Nations (My school team is ranked top 25 on the West coast): Secretary-General of Conferences
Junior State of America: Vice President (will most likely be president next year)
Mock Trial: Director of Public Relations
School magazine (it’s about social issues): Graphic designer
I have over 100 volunteer hours so far working with little kids at the YMCA.
Awards:
Model UN Awards: 2-second place awards, 3 fourth place awards, and 2 best research awards
Les Grand Concours: 2 honorary national french awards
Golden Award (It’s a school award given to the best students in a certain subject): History & AVID
SAT:
Haven’t taken them yet, but my PSAT was about 1400 (on a 1600 scale)
- I’m working on improving this
SAT II:
Again, haven’t taken but will take SAT II AP US History, SAT II English Language. Those are strong subjects, so I should get a good score
Other classes:
I took a Psychology and a Political Science class at a local college and I got A in both of them (there is no A+ or A-, just A. Also, I get college credit for this, so it’s like taking an AP class)
I know I will have very strong teacher recommendation letter. My school is very very competitive, like at least half the class has a 4.0 GPA. But, historically, not many have applied to Michigan, only 4-5 people have gone there so I’m hoping it won’t mess my chances up.
I feel like I’m forgetting something but that’s all I have. What are my chances of getting into University of Michigan as a Political Science major?
