EXTRACURRICULARS (I live in Saudi Arabia so do take that into consideration. As a female I don't have the opportunity to take part in many things outside of school so that is why my extracurriculars aren't the best! Plus, there is no such things as becoming the President of XYZ club in my school.
I switched schools after 10th grade which is why I've started new extracurricular activities, my old school didn't have many extracurriculars but I did try to get involved as much as possible)

Schools

UVA
College of William & Mary
Georgetown
Wellesley College

Btw I'm a Junior

Are you a US citizen living abroad? If so, what state(s) are you and your parents citizens of?

@FCCDAD Yes, I’m a US citizen that lives abroad. Virginia.

Then unless you have a sharp drop in your grades Junior year, or test scores significantly lower than your practice scores, you should have no problem getting into any of the schools you mentioned.

bump

If your essays are good, you have a good shot. The truth is that you ought to really explain what hindered your extracurricular involvement in Saudi Arabia. Your grades are good, but you will have to really give your essays depth to show passion where you extracurriculars are not deep enough to really express it. You have a good shot if you can get that down!

Best of luck.

@dogsarecool123 Are you sure I need to explain that? I’m assuming the regional admission officers are already aware of such things, or are they not?

I’m honestly not that into something but I do really like art? My old school had no art club, well they had a sketch club but that didn’t interest me. However, I did get involved in a regional art competition and came 5th place. I also joined every club/activity my new school has that allows me to use my artistic skills i.e. the school show props club & designing my school’s electronic magazine. I also draw in my free time but that probably doesn’t count for anything. I honestly can’t think of much else to do to show my passion. Any ideas?

Actually, I am heavily involved in some of my extracurricular (MUN, magazine, therapeutic riding etc). I just haven’t explained what I do/achieved in all of them on this thread.

Bump! Edit* to EC’s

-Joined the art committee and am the head of it!

Awesome ACT and solid grades!

UVA - high match
College of William & Mary - not too sure but probably a match?
Georgetown - reachy but reasonable
Wellesley College - match

GL :)

Seems like you have dealth with a great amount of strife making that a good topic for your P.S., but even aside from that you maintained your grades and got invovled. I would say this
UVA-Match
College of William & Mary:Low Reach
Georgtown:High Match
Wellesley College-Match

@SpoonNFork123‌ I should I have mentioned that I just found out that I qualify as an instate student for UVA/W&M (I emailed them). So on that note would my chances of getting in be higher?

Also what is my chance of getting into boston college?

Boston shouldn’t be that much harder probably a good match for you and since your in-state, that is actually a pretty big booster as the majority of universities prefer to admit students within in their own states.

Being in state for Virgina might make UVA almost a safety (ik for my state school, stats for in state applicants are lower than that of out of state applicants).

For the rest…
College of William & Mary: Match
Georgtown: Low Reach
Wellesley College-Match
Boston College: High Match

chance back please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1714162-chances-for-ivies-other-top-20-schools.html#latest

@collegeman5 I highly doubt UVA is my safety schools, especially not with my extracurriculars. In case you’re not aware UVA is the second best public U in America and has an acceptance rate of 20-30% - not easy to get into!

Thanks for chancing me! I think your stats are good so far, not too familiar with the British grading system though but A* is best, right?

UVA- high match
Georgetown- high match, maybe low reach at worst
College of William and Mary- match/high safety
Wellesley-low reach, better chances if you do ED

It will be easier to chance you once you get an official ACT score, but I think you’re on the right track  Good luck!

@pink997‌ Notice how I said might. I’m not sure about the differences in acceptance rate between in-state and out-of-state applicants. Sure, the acceptance rate is 20-30%, but does in-state status dramatically help your chances? If so, then I think you have a good shot and perhaps the school is a match (safety might have been taking it too far). If not, then it’s probably a low reach.

Sorry for not being clear.

your application looks pretty good. make sure to do well on your testing and you have a good chance!

please chance on my last post!

your application looks pretty good. make sure to do well on your testing and you have a good chance!

please chance on my last post!

I think your ACT is rlly good…

UVA, I’m not sure about UVA, but my friend got in with a 2230 SAT

College of William & Mary match
Georgetown- reach
Wellesley College- match

Being instate does help your chances for schools like W&M and UVA, but not as drastically as many people on this forum have been describing. Certainly it wouldn’t make either of those schools a safety.

You should note that many of these schools often have the choice of submitting an optional art supplement. If you are passionate about art or have created some original pieces, you can create a portfolio of them and submit it via common app around application time.

Work hard the rest of the year and do well and standardized testing, then more likely than not you will get into at least one of these schools. I currently attend W&M, so if you have any questions about the school itself, let me know. Good luck!
