So i graduated high school a semester early, but I didn’t do very well ( I was a troublemaker). My GPA was 3.1-2.7 and afterwards i attended community college for 2 years, but dropped out two of four semesters and had a 2.4 GPA. Im currently at Southern University Edwardsville because its cheap and close to home. I am taking easy classes this semester but will be in summer school and probably stay here for another two years before trying to transfer into a different university. I know its usually better to stay in one place but i really wanted a place with better programs and teachers. So My realistic GPA will probably be somewhere around 3.7-3.8.(4.0 so far but…) I don’t do any extracurriculars besides go to esports club once a week. I also spend 2-3 hours a day reading from coding textbooks that i bought off amazon. Im not actually doing this because i want to get into a better college, I really just doing have a lot else to do with my time and I want to better myself somehow. I hope to be able to make an app and and a website for the challenge, and see how many people in my school I can get to use it. But Ive mainly been focusing on HTML and CSS now, and am also going to learn PHP, JavaScript, and Python. SO basically I’m just wondering if being able to code will look good to ivy leagues or similar school. So anyways if Im thinking too much of myself by thinking i might be able to get into a school like Penn State or Stanford. If not I will probably just go to UIUC which is also close to home, but if I could get into a super prestigious school I would definitely go because I think it could possibly help me in the long run
Im half also african american male, will be 22 when I apply.
What major would you be applying for? Computer science?
Yes.
Penn State does not take transfers for CS and other majors in the College of Engineering. https://admissions.psu.edu/info/future/transfer/eligibility/4year/computer-science-cmpsc/
Edit: at University Park, I mean. They do take transfers if, for example, you’re a sophomore and go to a branch campus first. Just something to be aware of as you build your list of transfer schools.
UIUC is a great school for engineering.
