I have a 33 composite on ACT, 34 superscore. 760 Math 2 and 690 Chem subject tests. 3.95 unweighted and top 5% of class 35/752 (big public school in FL) I also have 11 total AP’s. I also have lots of clubs, sports etc (just like everyone else). I am interested in biomedical engineering and chemical engineering. I have visited all the schools and I am very confused because I love them all. I am looking for a well rounded school where I can have fun too! Not sure what to do about ED? Honest thoughts please!!!
In terms of biomedical/chemical engineering prestige, GA Tech > Wash U > Vanderbilt > Tufts. In terms of overall selectivity, Vanderbilt > Wash U / Tufts > GA Tech. Tufts emphasizes service and global perspectives and is near Boston. The private schools likely have more academic support. They are all slight reaches, but you have a chance at all of them. Do you have any geographical preference?
Prestige is not a logical construct, so it does not exist within the domain of engineering.
My daughter went to Washu U. We visted twice and she even sat in on some classes. I don’t know if that helped but she did get in. Her statistics were very similar to yours, 10 AP’s, maybe 780 on math and top 1 or2% of grad class (large class public school). You can drive from Nashville to St. Louis if you decide to take a trip to visit. Good luck! The engineering campus is beatuiful and they give a lot of individual attention to students for projects and innovation.
