What are my Chances? - Indian Student

I am a student from India. I have already passed my 12th Exams from CBSE board. I want to get admitted in Computer Science department. Please analyse my chances.

Academics:
10th from ICSE - 88.2%
12th from CBSE- 72% (75.25% in best of four) (Just fumbled in my 12th boards exam... had been a good student of my class and school, which is one of the best in my City)
Top 5% of my class of 150 students
91.2% in Hindustan Times Knowledge Index Test in 2001 (when I was in 9th grade)

SAT Tests not given yet but expecting 2200+ in SAT I and 800 each in SAT II Maths IIC, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Also, I am expecting very good recommendations from my school teachers.

Extra Curricular Activities & achievements:

I know I dont have a good chance, but still I would like to hear comments on my chances. Any suggestions on how to improve my chances are welcomed...

Have you taken the IIT-JEE? From the thread we had recently, if you score very high on that, it would probably be impressive to MIT. But I can't say anything yet.

You probably could refine your list, as I don't think "Finalist of Maggie Quiz(Maggie is good, might make some in a few minutes) Contest in 5th" will help.

Don't you have something... mind blowing? I don't know, your chances look ok, but I think you need to use your essays to amplify one or two big achievements.

Thanx Sagar... Well, Maggie Quiz is a General Knowledge Quiz :D
I am working on my Essays... I had a rank of 6000 in Manipal UGET (Medical Stream), and I didnt give the IITJEE 2005, though I had Maths in my 12th. Manipal Medical is very prestigious in India... But only 500 seats r there for MBBS... out of which about half goes to NRI/Management Quota for around Rs.37 lakh :)
Any suggestions... what r u doing at present?

do u live in bangalore?....the kala mandir sounds really really familar....i think i danced there abt 7 years ago...

Anyways, look into other great universities here other than MIT, maybe Berkley, Umich, CalTech....

And as far as MIT goes....after certain point....its the luck of the draw for almost everyone

you have to realize that almost everyone has "almost" if not perfect scores....

I also hate to tell you that your 12th score is pretty average
my cousin in india was upset over a 96%......the cut off line for several colleges are in the really high 90s...there are several guys/girls appying from india who have much better percentages

***** sagar......isnt the book pretty impressive?******

But ronty007 (is that supposed to be short for ronit?....just wondering....) dont hesitate from applying............you never know!!

Well I'm assuming that if he wrote a book, he can write really good essays. I haven't seen the book, and based my judgement on criteria that I understand, since obviously he hasn't explained in great detail some of his more vague accomplishments(which would make them really impressive).

I think you are one of those applying that can't be judged from just from a laundry list. Kids who medal at international olympiads/USAMO/that type of thing make it easy to say "Oh, you have a good chance."

I'm not giving you your chances, but if you(op) were to give more details about a few of the most important things you did, it would be easier to get realistic feedback here.

Dazefest, I think ur cousin must have given her 12th from Karnataka State Board, which gives a lot of marks to its students... 96% in CBSE is very very tough... its like the highest in CBSE.... and my name is Ronty a.k.a. Amit Kumar :D
I can also get a good recommendations from a Bharat Gaurav and National Awardee, who happens to be my previous school principal...
I wont apply to UC Berkeley becuz I need Financial Aid.......
I am from Patna by the way.

amit,if you really want to come here for the education maybe you can start off at an college with lower tution rates and the slowly transfer to a more well-known university.

check out umich....my cousin wants to come here too....(from india) and i'll prolly end up there...
its engineering school is in the top ten...6th i believe
great indian "hub" ( idont know about financial aid policies for internationals)
awsome state with average weather...and several internationals go to umich.
umich.edu
i cant believe i am selling umich!!!

Thanx Dazefest... but I cant consider Umich becuz it doesnt offer financial aid to international students :(
I dont know about open scholarships there though...
So, what r ur stats and where r u going to apply??
Cheers :)

Bumpity Bumpity Bump

well i want to be an engineer.....from MIT... if not then umich
