What are my chances? (MIT, UPenn, CalTech)

Here’s my profile. There are some things I’m not 100% sure on which I’ll explain. All will be EA/ED

GPA: Not sure but here is the situation

Sophomore Year (first time): 3 A’s, 2 B’s, 1 C (AP Calc is C, all other courses Honors)

Junior Year: 6 A’s (All IB)
Senior Year: 6 A’s (5 IB, Calc III at a local college as I ran out of math courses)

I repeated Sophomore year since I kept on getting bullied heavily which affected my academic and extracurricular performance.

Additional Comments: For my research, I met my mentor by continuously searching the internet for professors that I can reach out to and contacted them multiple times.

You have great ECs, test scores, and awards; I guess you have an upward trend for GPA which is alright considering your situation. Three things that stick out to me are 9/10th grade GPA, AP scores? and your subject tests. 1) It’s good that you took challenging courses like honors classes and AP Calc in freshman and sophomore year, but getting B’s and C’s doesn’t look great, even if you were bullied. They’d rather see you succeed in slightly less rigorous courses than kill yourself in AP Calc when most people are only in Algebra II. 2) AP Scores?? Why didn’t you take any AP tests? The only valid excuse is not being able to afford them, but as you didn’t mention anything about financial problems, I don’t know what to say. That probably won’t look good to colleges either. 3) Subject tests: same as AP tests… why didn’t you take them? If you’re interested in biology, and seem to have strength in that area, why didn’t you take the test? That’s puzzling to me. A 660 in Physics is below the 50th percentile which surely won’t to help you at all.

I’m honestly not sure how to forecast your chances. Without those 3 things I mentioned above, I’d say you have a good chance of acceptance at least 1 of the 3. Your profile is strong overall, and if you can 1) explain why you didn’t take SAT subject tests or AP tests, 2) explain your bullying situation well, and 3) get good rec. letters and write excellent supplements, you will be met with success, I think.

If you write about your bullying experience in your essays, that will probably help a lot, as long as you don’t sound weak, like you’re trying to evoke sympathy. Write about persevering in your research, academics, and extracurricular activities even in the face of this bullying.
