My unweighted gpa is 3.08 and my weighted gpa is 4.4. My sat score is 2010. Please be realistic of my chances of getting into syracuse university. If it helps I have a fair share of xc's and a 750 and 650 on two subject tests.

i had a 3.08 UW/ 3.7 W with plenty of bad grades mixed in there, but also about 11 AP classes going into senior year and a 2090 SAT and i got in. my school calculated weighted GPAs in a disadvantageous way, but i’m going to assume you’ve taken your fair share of APs with that high of a weighted GPA. thus, i’d say you have a good shot as long as you do an interview, have a high GPA first semester, have strong ECs, and write your essays well. in all honesty, i think grades are what SU looks at the least because i know people who were accepted with 2.8 UW GPAs because they also scored high on SATs and wrote well.

if you have a reason that your grades are low, definitely explain that in the additional information area on the commonapp. i asked my interviewer (and adcom) how he felt about that and he said it could only help, sometimes massively. don’t turn it into a dramatic essay or anything, but be straightforward about it. even if it sounds kind of self-loathing, they are glad to see your honesty because it gives them a better view of exactly who you are.

EDIT: i just saw your BU post and i didn’t feel like writing this all over again, so i’ll just answer here. given that you have a similar kind of situation as i had and i was accepted, i’d say you have a good chance of getting in. you really do need to do well during first semester to prove you’ve grown, though. the toughest part of BU is getting financial aid. BU openly admits to having need-based aid which is also partly based on merit, so if you’re in the bottom 25% of accepted students, you basically get no aid. if you’re in the 50-75% (which i seem to have been, likely because of my painting portfolio), the school will meet around 2/3 of your need.

Thanks for the reply. I hope I can get in.

I have a feeling you will! My sister got in with a huge amount of money with an 1850 on the SATs!

yeah i had a 3.0 and got around a 1690 on my SAT’s and got accepted. If cuse is really your number one you should consider ED. That’s probably one of the major reasons why i got accepted. And like Viciousdirt said, the essay and interview are big factors. But overall you should be fine, just try to pick up so EC’s senior year

“My unweighted gpa is 3.08 and my weighted gpa is 4.4.” Seriously, man, get your facts straight.

actually my facts are straight. every school has their own way of calculating weighted gpa. So stop being ignorant.

You seem to be a jerk looking at your other posts. No wonder you’r looking at crap schools like bentley university and uc’s that are not the top. so go **** yourself.
