What are my chances of being accepted?

4.26 gpa (weighted)
Class Rank: 36 out of 496
SAT: 690 math and 620 CR
ACT: 33 math and 30 CR

Athletics: varsity tennis and varsity cross-country

Extra curricular: National Honor Society, President of French Club, Student Body President

I also forgot to mention that I am the section leader for cellists in the orchestra and have been a member of an all-city honor orchestra for 6 years

depends how you performed on CFA…
and make sure you do get the nomination from your US Congressman or US Senator.
o/w looks ok

What would it take for the admissions office to screen out a candidate?

hmm,it depends who you and your family members are… AND how you perform academically (very important)…

What do you mean by who you and your family members are?

I’m sure they do a background check on you but I wouldn’t be too worried, it’s probably not too stringent.

But your application does look fine, even better than mine! And since I’ve received my Congressional nomination, it shouldn’t be too tough for you. However, many of the deadlines for the application to the Congressmen were on November 1st, so I’m not too sure if it’s too late or not but call your district office just to make sure.

If you get that nomination and you do fairly well on your CFA, you should be solid.

My son graduated class of 2010… occasionally viist. Your outlook looks fine. As noted, CFA is important, as well as nominations.

One of the ‘myths’ that I like to bust is the need to have political connections for an appointment… We were in a very competitive district and we got a nomination no porblem…

Background check is about ‘Serious’ issues …Subversion , felonies (not even sure if this is a disqualifer, )

Given that I do get the congressional nomination, do you see any possibility that I would not receive an appointment?

If you get an appointment there is a standard form you take to your local police station to fill out relating to any signficant issues you have had with the law. That is only done AFTER you get an appointment. How well your family is connected with your MOC has NOTHING to do with getting a NOM and has no bearing on getting an appointment. Hopefully you understand the application process well enough to realize that everyone who is 3Q with a NOM will NOT get an appointment.

“Background check is about ‘Serious’ issues …Subversion , felonies (not even sure if this is a disqualifer, )”

What about a check that revealed activities for the Democratic Socialists of America or Pax Christi USA— I am sure these are two organizations that are not looked at favorably by those who make appointments to the service academies. There is less political freedom in the U.S. than you would believe.

LOL this is a joke, right?

^^^ Most likely. One thing you will find when applying to any academy will be lots of people who will provide you ‘advice’ about what the application process involves. Many of them have no idea what they are talking about.
