GPA: 3.9
ACT: 35

Also, I was thinking about Electrical Engineering, but what are some easier (less impacted) possible engineering majors?

I know my GPA isn’t the best, but I’m hoping my ACT score will maybe make up for it? I will be applying early decision, if that helps my chances. Thanks.

You’ve got as good a chance as any! EE is a large major. Here is some very valuable information for you. Please see the attached 2013 Cal Poly Fact Book. Specifically go to page 44 of the electronic pdf file (page 38 on the actual printed page) and review the Enrolled First Time Freshman -College of Engineering by Major (at the bottom of the page). This will show you exactly how many students were enrolled in 2013 by major. This will give you a good idea how large each major might be. For example, there were 169 new freshman for EE and 240 for ME. However, only 48 enrolled for MatE and 18 for MfgE. http://www.ipa.calpoly.edu/sites/ir.wcms.calpoly.edu/files/publications_reports/factbook/fbfall13.pdf

As OasakaDad stated, you have a pretty decent chance for acceptance, I would apply as Electrical Engineering if that’s what you’re aiming for.

It is a bit of a challange to switch from a less impacted major to a more impacted major, but if that’s the route you intend to take the industrial and MfgE might be the less impacted majors.

My son applied ED for EE last year (2013). He didn’t get in under ED but did get in for RD. His #'s were almost identical to yours. I called Admissions right after ED came out and was told that the average GPA for ED for EE was 4.5. I asked what my sons chances were for RD and was told his #'s looked good but it depended on who else was applying. Luckily he got in and loves going there. Good luck!
