I here competition is very intense to get into Groton. I am a thirteen year old girl and I am planning to apply for my sophomore year. I have straight A's and I'm the top distance runner on my track team. I'm also a competitive swimmer. I've recently done a lot of community service and I received the "Knights of Pythias" award at the conclusion of this year. I played bell percussion for three years but I'm not sure if I want to continue this instrument in the future. I've been told I'm very charismatic and easy to talk to. In addition writing is my favorite subject so I think that could help me get in. I am white. I have a cousin that attends Groton and she says her classes are all very small. There are only about 80 kids in her grade. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in? If not, please let me know what I could do to increase my chances.

Should be in the Chances thread, not here.

Oh sorry, I’m new to this site

Here’s what I have to say.

You certainly did the first thing right – look at Groton! It’s an amazing school with a ton of opportunities. You have as good a chance as anybody, but I’ll warn you that only about 15 kids start in fourth form (sophomore year). You sound to me like a potential Grotonian, but I don’t go to Groton or even know someone who does. Also, keep in mind that once you reach a certain level, admissions comes down to luck. Maybe Groton will be looking for a soccer player instead of a track runner next year and that’ll be the deciding factor. Good luck!

P.S. Yay running! :)

You sound like a good candidate, but u must keep in mind that of all the ‘far-reach’ boarding schools, Groton is probably the MOST DIFFICULT one to get into after freshman year.

Because Groton has an 8th grade, by 9th grade the class is mostly filled up and few new students are added. In contrast, other schools increase their class size by another ~50% in the 10th grade year.

Have you taken some SSATs practices? Everything else looks awesome!

Yeah I’ve been looking, do you know where I can find some good practice? @loveyoutoo

The Kaplan book, and the Princeton. Review book, and preparing and applying(which was by the SSAT people I think). Also, just online word lists were really helpful.
