What are my chances of getting into an Ivy league school?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you could all shed some light on my chances of getting into an Ivy league school based on my current resume:

I’m in 10th grade and I have an unweighted GPA of 4.46 (out of 4.5). I am ranked first in my class and have taken 4 APs thus far and plan to take 6 next year and 6 the following Senior year. I plan to take the ACT at the beginning of next year and I have usually performed at a 34-36 level on ACT practice tests.

Outside of academics, I have been playing chess since I was 4 and I am currently a United States Chess Federation qualified National Master (with a rating above 2200) and have played in over 100 tournaments and placed in nearly every one of them. I have earned scholarships already through chess to several universities through winning certain tournaments, and I plan to open a chess club for the disabled next year and serve as President. I have been ranked within the top 10 for my age within the U.S. for the last 5 or 6 years and qualified for the World level tournament of chess for my age and traveled to Dubai in 8th grade. I am also involved in Speech and Debate and have been participating since 7th grade, earning first in high school tournaments in 8th grade and most recently in 10th grade. This year, I additionally earned first in Regionals and qualified for States only to place a few spots outside the cutoff for Nationals. I served as President in 9th grade (the club only allows you to serve as President for one year) and I implemented numerous reforms within the club from doubling its size to cutting down deficits of the club. I am also planning to volunteer in a club this summer to assist kids with disabilities in Speech and Debate. I have also been a part of Math club since Freshman year and served as President this year and will serve as President next year as well. I have also been playing music since fourth grade and earned first place in some tournaments recently and led my level of Orchestra to earning its superior rating for the first time in school history last year. I played Tennis Freshman year on the JV team and plan to play next year (I was sidelined this year due to a knee dislocation). Now, I doubt any middle school achievements matter at all, but in case it was worth mentioning, I qualified and placed in states in Power of the Pen, Mathcounts, and Robotics in middle school.

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Very high, keep up the good work and make sure your essays are on point. Ivy leagues are notorious for rejecting the 4.0s or the 1600s or the 36s. It’s a game of luck, but you have the right cards

“unweighted GPA of 4.46”

How is this possible? Is unweighted GPA also computed differently at every high school?

Ok thank you for the feedback, and sorry I meant weighted GPA not unweighted. My unweighted GPA is 4.0.

but my weighted GPA is 4.46

Your base stats are awesome- you can’t really do better than how you’re doing. The dedication to speech and debate and chess is great as well.

The odds are in your favor as it is, but to be safe I would add on to your extracurriculars in a unique but meaningful way. for example- you could write about an experience or a personal revelation that occurred while playing chess and submit it to a writing contest or literary magazine. The chess club for the disabled sounds like a wonderful way to give back and will look great on an application.

You’re doing amazing things! I’m sure many top colleges will welcome you with open arms.
