PERSONAL STATEMENTS:
I lived a hard life, grew up in a sexually and physically abusive household. my father died freshman year and my mother went crazy on drugs. (thats why my grades were bad freshman and sophomore year) I went through a phase of no hope and did not care about life. I'm now a foster child and changed myself and have better grades (see junior year).

I know my grades aren't good and I'm trying to get mySAT scores up, but I'm hoping my many EC's and personal statement will help. What do you guys think?
Please! Chance me for Berkeley!

By the way, i’m an in-state resident.

You definitely need to work on your SAT, as you know. If you can incorporate your hardships on your essay, then your essay could standout greatly

Can I get some more feedback, guys?

Yes, your essay is essential for you to be a standout applicant at Berkeley. I would say it is a reach school, but as long as you work toward it, you have solid chances.

I honestly don’t know how to chance you (as a high school senior). While you definitely need work on your SAT, your personal circumstances are vastly different from that of most people. Your best bet would be to write a great essay, but you could also seek advice at the Berkeley subforum from parents/students who may have gone through similar situations/know someone who has.

Best of luck to you!

Actually, I would say that your SATs aren’t in need of being improved. UC Berkeley does not see SAT scores as an important factor, and the only reason that their Median SAT scores are high is due to the fact that smart people who Berkeley accepts tend to have high SAT scores. I honestly see you getting into Berkeley by the skin of your teeth, you have terrific extracurriculars and your grades are competitive, that is really all that Berkeley looks at. If not Berkeley though, UC-LA and UC-San Diego would be happy to have you and are less competitive.

you can write an amazing essay about the challenges that you have overcame in your life. Berkeley doesnt look at freshman grades i think. im pretty sure UCs only look at sophmore and junior right? Well you do have a lower sat score than average but you have great ECs. I think you should get in. UCLA is actually more competitive than UCB nowadays but one of the two will definitely accept you

Guys, I got my other SAT’s back and got a 1700. Do my chances go higher? Can you guys please give me more feedback? Thanks(:

Chance chance chance plzplzplz

What was your SAT breakdown?

Berkeley - low reach
