Just took my SAT today, but on the practice I got about 1880. I took a prep course so I'm hoping for 2000.

Community Service:
Camp Swift (about 1500 hours)-Camp Swift is a summer camp for underprivileged inner-city children from the Phoenix area. The camp is planned and run by Jewish teenagers who volunteer their time not only during the summer, but throughout the year to plan camp and raise money. (These hours include 12 sessions of camp plus planning and fundraising throughout all four years)
I have participated in other community service projects including playing the piano for retirement home residents, assembling toiletry baskets for Hurricane Katrina victims, volunteering at food banks and homeless shelters, and American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. These other activities add up to roughly 200 hours total.

Other Important (or maybe not important?) Factors:
-I will be paying for my own college/graduate school
-My cousin is my legal guardian. My mother died when I was seven and I don't know who my father is. I'm hoping I can use my experiences to write some compelling essays. Also, if you know of any scholarships for adopted, single-parent children, etc., that would be great!

I'd like to go to medical school eventually, but I don't know if I necessarily want to major in science.

I know this was really long. Thanks so much for your input!

I got in with less… and I got a dean’s scholarship too, you’re in! :)

^
I agree, you’re in haha

Oh, as for scholarships…
If you don’t find any, remember that FAFSA (to a degree) takes in that kind of information into account…especially if you are living with a legal guardian. Good luck!
By the way, I did hebrew high/leadership stuff too :P

Hey guys, i’m kind of late…
but i was just wondering whether or not any of you knew which gpa mattered most to Chapman? the weighted or unweighted? because i have a 3.8 weighted so i’m a little worried…
also does Chapman look at freshman year grades?

Thanks so much for the help! SoCalScott, I’m glad we have that in common-you understand that while it appears on paper that we’re religious fanatics, we’re really not haha. Chester3, I certainly hope they don’t look at freshman year-I definitely didn’t try my hardest back then.

yeah u have a good chance! i got in with similar stats…except higher gpa. i had a 4.1 weighted and 3.7 uw 1850 sats. got a scholarship too!

Oh I COMPLETELY know how that feels…I’m one of the most unreligious jews that knows hebrew I know haha

update: 28 ACT, 1870 SAT (610 CR, 610 Math, 650 Writing)
:)

Hey everyone…

Chapman has been my dream school for years… and I don’t know what I am going to do if I get in. Right now I am a sophomore in high school. I only have a 3.0 GPA… but next year I am taking 3 AP courses. I think part of the reason why my grades have been so low is because I have been recovering from a trauma experience, anxiety, and a little bit of depression. I have finally found someone to talk to, and I can already feel my performance level getting better. I think I could do better than I ever have my Junior and Senior years. Even though my grades aren’t good, I think I have a few other things going for me. I am lucky enough to be able to afford full tuition. I am a competitive dancer and have received many awards and scholarships. I am also a part of National Charity League, and I have completed hundreds of hours of volunteer work. If my grades dramatically improve over the next couple of years, do you think I have a chance of getting in? Please let me know, as I should probably start looking at other places because I don’t have much faith in myself of getting in right now. Please also send me any recommendations of what I could do to help my chances. Thank you!

You should start a new thread as people probably aren’t looking at this old one.

Colleges look favorably on upward trends in grades.

But the most important thing is to recover from your psychological setbacks. Be kind to yourself. It’s great if you’re feeling better and can perform better, but don’t put life-or-death pressure on yourself and your grades. Just do your best, do the things that make you happy, and next spring you can take a look at the overall picture and whether it’s a good match for Chapman or other schools. From what you have said, you will certainly be able to get into a good college.

The major you apply for makes a big difference on how easy it is to get accepted at Chapman U.

Dodge College majors, Biological Sciences & Business Administration are the hardest majors to get accepted into.

The Chapman U average accepted SAT score is 1882 and the average ACT is a 28.

The average Dodge College accepted GPA was 3.7 and average SAT was 1920.

If you start off freshmen year as a political science major, do you have the option to switch into business after the first semester. It is difficult to determine the right major at this point in life…
