I just finished my junior year of high school so I am thinking a lot about colleges. My freshman and most of my sophomore year were rough to say the least, I had a lot of family problems and school was far from my top priority. I finished my sophomore year with a 2.61 gpa (I know, horrible.) This year however, I stepped it up. I got almost all A's, finishing junior year with a 3.23 gpa. I know it's not great, but not bad considering where I was. I've read that FSU really likes to see an upward trend in grades, so hopefully this will help. I took the SAT in May and I got a 1370, but I have a private tutor so I think that will help me improve my scores a lot. Next year I am taking 3 AP and 2 honors classes for the first time. I am also taking 2 classes online over the summer to enhance my gpa. I have been very involved with theatre all through high school. I am also voulentering at a special needs school this summer. FSU is my top pick right now, and I will do anything at this point to get in!

At this point, FSU is a reach. Both your GPA and test scores are too low. You may be able to improve your test scores, but you’re not likely, at this point, be able to get your GPA within range.

85+% of incoming freshman have a GPA of 3.5+ or better.

However, you should still strive to improve your test scores and GPA (via the summer classes)! It will improve your chances at other colleges, and perhaps give you a shot at FSU.

Keep in mind that 1 out of 4 new students at FSU are transfer students. You could go to a CC or another public university for 2 years, and then transfer to FSU. In that case, your HS GPA will not matter. It’s a fairly popular option and can save you a bunch of $$$ (which would be helpful if you plan on then going to grad school).

Good Luck!
