What else should/can I do to get into FSU?

Hi! I am a junior, who like most high school students, is going through the phenomenon that we call, “the coming of age”. I ignorantly slacked off through 9th and 10th grade getting mostly B’s and C’s and even some rare D’s (2). I don’t want to point fingers or make excuses, but let’s just say that I hung out with the wrong crowd. I’ve been considered as a gifted kid all my life until I fell with the wrong people, but I guess that’s besides the point…So far through 11th grade I began to mature and decided to change mentally. I have made all A’s with the exception of 2 B+'s. People have told me that colleges pay attention to any inclines or declines in terms of grades throughout your years of high school. I consider myself to have taken decently rigorous courses. I have taken all honors classes with the exception of two years in regular math, and also the inclusion of two AP courses. I plan to take this challenging mindset with me throughout the rest of my academic years. My gpa goes as follows - 3.0-3.1 unweighted and a 3.6-3.7 weighted. I plan on retaking the courses where I have received a D as a semester grade, and hopefully replace it with an A, through online schooling during the summer. That can hopefully boost my gpa a little (everything point counts). With this information being said, what are the chances of me getting into FSU? I have a brother that attends FSU, although I do not know how much family heritage can play a factor into admission, or if any at all. I plan to take the SAT a handful of times, as I currently have a tutor and am studying my butt off for it. I feel like the SAT is my last trump card for the situation that I am in. I plan to get at least a score of 1700-1800. My backup colleges are UCF, USF, or FAU. Any advice on what level classes (AP or honors) I should take senior year? Or just any other extra advice to give in general? I was also considering to be a college transfer student into FSU if all else fails. Any advice on that? Thanks in advance!

What are your SAT/ACT scores? I think FSU will appreciate your improvement. Yes, your freshman and sophomore year grades will hurt you, but more importantly they will see you turned things around junior year. Your admission also depends on test scores, extracurriculars, essays, and teacher recs. Find a teacher who can speak for the turnaround and maturity you gained in your junior year. Also if you haven’t yet join some ECs that sound interesting to you and you should have a great shot at FSU!

Thanks for the encouragement! I plan on taking the SAT and ACT this June and again senior year. I have been studying almost everyday with tutors, study guide books, etc. as I know my scores can seriously help me with admissions. I will definitely take everything into mind. Thanks for the advice.
