What are my chances of getting into McGIll University as an American?

Upcoming Senior

3.7 Unweighted/3.8 Weighted GPA
28 ACT
SAT 11:
-620 French
-700 US Hist.
-690 Literature

My low GPA is primarily because of a C I received in Trig last year

I am interested in Political Science, International Relations, or Law.

I am learning French (4 years), Spanish (2 years), and Russian (1 year at local college).

I have good ECs, but have heard that these are not important in McGill admissions.

Do I have a chance?

Here are the minimum requirements from last year.

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee acceptance.
EC’s are not considered at all for admission.
You would be applying to Arts.
You cannot study law as an American undergraduate.

“Do I have a chance?”

Yes, I think that you do. I think that it might be close so anything that you can do to boost your GPA or ACT or SAT would be useful. I would NOT consider this a “safety”. Also, you might want to check the McGill threads on CC to see how your GPA and ACT compare with other students who have been accepted versus others who were rejected.

Of course, boosting your ACT with some preparation and a retake is generally easier than boosting GPA.
