To anybody that recently got in,
I just wanted to know what your resume looked like, if you had any past experience and what you think my chances are considering my have a decent resume and decent grades (but not much experience at all in filmmaking)? Though I do plan on taking a 3 week course with the New York Film Academy this summer…
Thank you!!
Hi,
I recently got in for Critical Studies. I personally had zero past experience, aside from knowing how to use Adobe Elements for video editing and stating that I liked to watch TV shows and really study what it is that makes them good. That being said, I also had a 31 ACT and 4.4 GPA, though I don’t know how much those factor in.
Every class is different. When they’re accepting 30 students into a major, they do their best to spread out what it is the class has as assets. They want to bring together a bunch of people who are all different, and can from there feed off those differences. They’ll want to accept some people who have won festivals, and others who have no experience but would like to try it out.
For you, I think it would be great to do a program like that. It can only help, and it will give you more skills for your supplemental! However, I think that your personal statement and supplemental materials are what really make and break an app. After all, those are what these officers are using to understand you and your unique situation. No one can really predict who the admissions officers will choose, so your best bet is to emphasize what unique experiences you have, and what you can bring to the table for SCA. Demonstrate your diversity, as well as a love for USC!
Congratulations!
Thank you so much for your help!!
