I have a 4.48 unweighted gpa
By the end of highschool, I would have taken 10 AP classes
Got a 2270 on SAT I (CR/M/W) (770/710/790)
I got a 33 on my ACT
Doing research at Texas A&M University this summer
By the end of highschool, I would have played soccer for 4 years; would’ve been captain 3 out of 4 years (twice on JV, and once on varsity)
Do community service
Was accepted in a biotech research camp for 3 summers
Btw, I live in Texas
I think my sat and act scores are pretty solid, but my gpa might be a bit low…
So what are my chances?
Fairly certain that the UCs don’t look at weighted GPA for admission- what is your unweighted GPA on a scale to 4.0?
From what you listed, you don’t seem to have enough extracurriculars but you might not have listed everything!
Since the UC system is so cash-strapped, being from out of state will give you an advantage in the admissions process.
Your test scores are in range but did you take the SAT IIs? If so, how did you do? Though the UCs don’t require them, they do recommend sending them if you get a 650+. That could help you in the admissions process.
Essays are also pretty important, and Berkeley admissions are weird even with the most qualified applicants!
There are a lot of extraneous variables here, so I can’t really make an accurate chance, but with that being said, I’d say that you have a decent chance of being admitted.
I meant 3.48 unweighted… i mistyped.
And i’m going to take the Chem, Bio, Math 1 and Math 2 subject tests between now and when i apply.
I also do Leo Club and I go to a local elementary school and mentor underprivileged kids. I volunteered at St. Joseph Regional Hospital for 3 years. I also danced in middle school to raise money for hungry kids in India.

Unweighted looks low for UCB. 3.89 was average unweighted last year.

UCB: Low Reach
UC Berkeley would be a reach because your gpa is much lower as compared to their app pool. UCSD and lower may be more reachable though
Gumbymom, I used the rogerhub.com calculator and my gpa is apparently a 4.11
@APChem350: Did you only use 10-11th grades. No extra points for Honors classes for 10-11th, only AP classes since your OOS. AP classes will usually add about .2-.4 to your unweighted so your UC GPA should be around 3.68 to 3.88 at the highest. Does unweighted GPA of 3.48 include Freshman year and some lower grades??
Just checking, since there will be a big difference with your chances if your UC GPA is 4.11 or 3.88?
so what i did for my previous unweighted was i took each grade i got and converted it into a gpa number. For exampbe, if i had a 93, i made it a 3.3 and if i had a 98, i made it a 3.8 so that’s why my gpa was so low. I now realize that all A’s are 4.0’s and all B’s are 3.0’s so now that i do that, my GPA is much higher
OK, then you have a good chance for an acceptance based on GPA and test scores. EC’s are a little weak. UCB is holistic, so EC’s and essays will definite contribute to your chances or denial. Good Luck.
Since you are OOS the amount of tuition you can pay is a HUGE factor. Berkeley barely gives aid to those who are OOS. They also need the OOS students money so
