At the moment, UC Irvine or UCSB is my go-to school but I want to throw in an application at UCB and UCLA just to give it a shot.
About me:
I am a 3rd year computer science major at a community college in central california not too far from the bay area. I am a second generation student born to filipino immigrants, my mom attended my same community college for her RN(registered nurse) while my dad attended college but never graduated. My current overall GPA is 3.67, and my “assist certified GPA”(excluding non-transferable courses) is a 3.71. I did the math, and I’m pretty confident I can boost my overall GPA to a 3.78 (3.83 assist certified GPA) by the time I graduate with my AA in spring 2019 if I get all A’s in my last year. In college, I’ve worked as a part time sales associate at Foot Locker for 2 years and as a computer science coding instructor for elementary school students for a couple months. I also constantly volunteer at my parents family business which is a nursing home thats been in operation for 14 years throughout high school and college. I am in the computer science club in my college where we work on community tech projects. I am also currently participating in the national cyber league which is an online cybersecurity training and competition program. I’m knowledgable in computer hardware and know how to build computers. The only awards and achievements I have made in college is making the president’s list(honor roll with 3.5 GPA or above) and receiving 1st place essay in an annual college writing competition. I’m not too worried about the UC essays because I think I can write really good essays and I’ve received a lot of good feedback from my English professors in college.
I was involved in my church youth group throughout middle school and all of high school and also played guitar, bass, drums, and vocals on the youth worship team, and Sunday worship team. I’ve received many awards in being in the worship team including regional 1st place recognition in my church district in the Northern California Nevada Student Ministries. Our youth group was very involved in many community organizations including local neighborhood and homeless outreaches in our city, and also in San Francisco. I also was part of the christian club in high school, did theater my junior year and got to compete in a theater competition in the bay area where my group were finalists, and played basketball for my city’s recreational center. I was also recognized by the district by receiving a special district medal and sash at my graduation for completing 300+ community service hours(60 required to graduate). I took no AP classes in high school.
Sorry if that was a long read. Anyways, I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high, do I have pretty good chances?
By the way I’ma be missing only one pre-requisite which is Math “Differential Equations” class because I don’t have room for it in my schedule and I’m just planning on taking it over at Berkley if I end up getting in.
