So basically, I’m a psych major with a 3.3 GPA I applied to UF and got denied, so now I’m really freaking out about UCF If I
don’t get in I can’t continue studying, this is the last university I applied to I’m transferring over from a community college, are my odds of getting into UCF really low? I know its a minimum access major.
@dory34 are you transferring with your AA completed? You’d be guaranteed acceptance into UCF. I thought to UF too. If you won’t have your AA completed, that’s tougher.
Is 3.3 your college GPA or high school?
Which semester are you applying for? You’ll have a better chance if you apply for Spring or Summer.
Thanks for the reply, I’m applying for Spring, i’m a transfer student so i’ll have my A.A completed in December. I’m currently in community college. I thought I had a good chance of getting into UCF and UF but UF rejected me and now I’m freaking out about UCF if they don’t take me I’ll literally have no where to go, I’d have to wait until next semester to apply. UF said my application “wasn’t competitive enough.” I’ll be behind a whole semester if UCF doesn’t take me.
@dory34 that’s really strange. You might want to call again and find out exactly why UF isn’t accepting you under the Florida Transfer guarantee. It does apply to all state universities. https://www.floridacollegesystem.com/students/transfer.aspx
UF doesn’t guarantee anyone a transfer. Why don’t you consider UNF? They take transfer applications through mid-December for spring admissions.
Actually, this says that UF DOES follow the Articulation Agreement and spells out the minimum requirements. @dory34

Right? Or am I crazy?
UF told me my application “wasn’t competitive enough” and UCF deferred me so I’m basically screwed, I’ve had two mental breakdowns in the last week because I don’t even know at this point if I’ll even be able to go to college. If whats on that link true I don’t even know how I’d go about fighting my admission decision or if its even worth it, at this point I just need UCF to accept me, How high are my chances now that I’ve been deferred? I think it’s so pointless at this point why would they accept me later after my final transcripts are in? My grades aren’t going to change they’re going to be the same if they didn’t want me before they aren’t going to want me once the semester is over.
I’m currently applying to FAU, @Trisherella I will look into UNF thank you.
I think the agreement just means that all of your credits count and you are done with general education courses, not guaranteed admission (they use the word eligible- so that can be interpreted different ways). Plus it also states that you have to be admitted into the college major- so the major can still say no, which is what seems to have happened in this case.
OP- best of luck- I hope you are admitted to UCF.
@jeneric Thank you I’m slowly losing hope, I’ve even considered dropping out because at this point I don’t know what to do.
Before giving up, why not ask UF and UCF why your transfer isn’t guaranteed under the articulation agreement. It’s worth a conversation.
@UCFin2018 I think its because theres limited access in the psychology major, I asked my professor and she told me right now I’m basically competing against other transfer students with similar GPA’s so If I can bring up my GPA by the end of the semester I’ll have higher chances of getting in, as of right now I’m applying to FAU and FGCU just in case, right now my goal is to get inside a university I can always try to transfer out during the summer to UCF if worst comes to worst. I don’t think it can get any worse for me right now, I literally have no where to study.
@dory34 I have a friend who went to FGCU and loved it. She graduated and was immediately given her dream job in NYC. It may be a good thing to look elsewhere too.
@UCFin2018 I mean if I do end up having to go elsewhere its only for a semester because I’m going to keep applying UCF is my number one choice and I love orlando I can’t see myself anywhere else, this whole situation is just really sad for me.
@dory34 concentrate on what you can control- your grades this semester and applying other places. Being deferred is a blow- but it is not being denied. I agree with your professor, doing well this semester could be the difference!
I know this is stressful- I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!
@jeneric Thank you very much, I’m trying to keep positive, I’m currently quitting my job and trying to join a lot of clubs in school plus I’ve asked two of my college professors for a recommendation letter. I’m trying to see if I can still join student government, plus I’m taking a mandarin class this semester so I’m gonna join the Chinese club, and one of my professors told me she can get me into the American History club. Hopefully all of this helps to get me into UCF.
UF only says you’re “eligible for an admission decision” if you meet the transfer requirements. They don’t guarantee an acceptance.
Dory, UNF has an absolutely beautiful campus. They are also a large state university with a mid-size school feel. With around 10,000 undergrads it isn’t as overwhelming as some of the larger schools like UF, FSU and UCF. The classes are smaller, and you have a chance to get to know your professors. I’ve also heard that it’s a friendly campus.
@dory34 Don’t give up hope- you are taking some good positive steps to help yourself regarding UCF- and keeping other possible paths open with applying to other schools. Keep up that good hard work, it will work out and pay off for you in the end. Good luck!
Dory34 - I am not an overly positive person that adhears to the “things happen for a reason” mantra. What I do know is most of the time when the path I chose didn’t pan out the alternate path ended up being better. Be open to UNF and FAU. You have so much ahead of you for your education and career which is very exciting - embrace the new path while you fight for what you want.
just thought everyone should know I got accepted into UCF for spring term!(:
