What are my chances of getting into UNC Chapel Hill?

I am an incoming junior. Chapel Hill is my top choice and I want to major in Journalism. I am also an out of state student from Maryland, which I realize decreases my chances of getting in. So far I have taken 2 AP classes and I plan to graduate with 7 or 8 AP's. I have a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.33. I have not taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I will take them in the Spring of 2015. I am class council Vice President, a member of The National Society of High School Scholars, and a member of the National Honor Society. I play lacrosse for my school and played varsity as a sophomore which I will continue to play throughout high school. I was selected after a tedious application process to represent my school at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar this spring. This summer I attended a 3-week writing program at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. I am also in the Advanced Placement Power Scholars program at my school. I have 150 community service hours. I am also a counselor at a camp during the summer. I plan on attending a summer program at UNC next summer and during my senior year I will have an internship in the afternoon.

What are my chances of getting into UNC? Also, what else could I do to improve my resume/application? Chapel Hill is my dream university and would do anything to get in. Thank you for your help!

Hey! That’s my dream school too! Up top! Anyway, I know you won’t like hearing this, but it’s a little too early to start considering your chances at colleges. You really need to know your test scores, rough class rank and junior year grades before you can get a good picture. Best of luck anyway though. Here’s to us both getting in!

I know it’s early, I just want to make sure I do all I can to get in! What test scores should I get and what other things should I do that would look good on my application?

Make sure you are a well-rounded applicant, continue volunteering, and join some more ECs if you want (join because you are passionate about them not because you just want more ECs).

Thank you for the advice!
