Based off of this basic information that I have not went into great detail, what are my chances of getting into UNC Chapel Hill Early Action?
Your standardized test results clearly will be problematic.
1470 sat = 55th percentile. 20 ACT = 49th percentile. Basically half this country’s test takers are doing better than you. UNC EA chances? You extrapolate your chances at one of the more selective public schools extant.
You need to seriously consider a wide breadth of target schools. Best of luck to you. Maybe delete some ECs in lieu of some test prep. Your ECs won’t get you over those middling test scores, at this point.
Please note your earlier “chance me” thread was locked because you’re not in the correct forum.
Personally I believe that UNC looks at way more than just test scores. If test scores is the only thing that they can find worng with me then so be it. I guess I wasnt a right fit. But whatever the case may be on January 31 I am going to be anticpating an acceptance letter and ill be sure to let you know the results. Praise God!
UNC probably does look at more than test scores, but only after you’ve made an initial cut, and your test scores may not get you past the first round.
Looking at Naviance scattergrams for my kid’s school (in-state NC), no one with an SAT score less than 1800 has been accepted to Chapel Hill. There were just a couple of acceptances of kids with ACTs in the mid-20s, but I’m pretty sure those were recruited athletes. There were a lot of kids deferred or denied with SATs > 1900 and ACTs > 28.
If you’re out of state your odds are even lower. Almost all the top kids in NC are applying to Chapel Hill. If you don’t get in it’s because the competition level is very high. Lots of great students get denied from Chapel Hill.
Extremely, extremely unlikely
The scores are not nearly good enough. The GPA is probably from an NC high school that isn’t that competitive, so the scores might not be that far from the grades.
Ill be sure to let you know when i get in @sattut @hsstudent2015
Haha don’t shoot the messengers @antwania97
SAT Scores are too low. if you raised it then you would have a better chance.
Its a low/medium reach
More importantly do you truly believe you are academically capable? It’s an elite university that’s incredibly rigorous.
I dont feel like scores define me so yes i do feel like I am academically capable. I only have one B on my whole transcript and that was in Discrete Math Honors. @Alden97
Try a branch UNC campus and, from there, if you do well, then you can think about attending UNC-Chapel Hill…
I think the advice of @Catria is excellent. If you don’t get into UNC-CH this time, staying in the system and knocking it out of the park freshman year is a great way to put yourself in the best position to get in later. You would be foolish to not at least apply to some of the other campuses.
