What were your friends grades in grade 11? That’s usually the most important year for Canadian admissions.

11th - 89%
BTW is it true that for internationals; Canadian universities think that grades do not define a person’s app and they vary from person to person? Do they look more at ACT/SAT scores(read this on Quora)?

One of my close friends got into UBC with 74% in 11th.

@bouders

Actually grade 11 doesn’t matter in Canada (only for early admission which most don’t care about) universities in Canada only look at your grade 12 year atleast for domestic applicants, this may be different for international applicants.

And no it is not true that most Canadian schools consider other factors more important than grades. In Canada they usually extend offers only on the basis of a person’s average. The only exceptions are Waterloo programs that include the AIF (but even then your grades are more important), McMaster’s health sci, Isci, and arts & sci, and business programs. And even then the people with the higher averages are usually admitted first with supp apps acting as tie breakers between borderline applicants (the only exception being McMaster’s programs that weigh the supp app heavily)
Do you mind saying the programs your friend applied to for each? Each program has different admission cut offs.
