I'm going into my senior year of high school.I go to a mathematics and science academy in Chicago. I have taken ALL honors classes since freshman year and I have an accumulative gpa of a 3.1 (kind of low I know) I did not do that well my sophomore year but your junior year is the most important year and I managed to get nearly straight A's every quarter ending my JUNIOR YEAR gpa with a 3.8. I MANAGED TO IMPROVE MY ACCUMULATIVE GPA a lot. But its a 3.1. I rank in the top 50% of my class. My ACT score was a 21 but I plan on retaking it. I also want to take the SAT as well. Im pretty sure I going to get straight As my senior year as well. Also for my senior year I am in a mentorship program which allows me to graduate with distinction and I volunteer and I'm active in many clubs. I plan on majoring in advanced medical imaging technology. Also for my senior year 1 of my classes is dual credit.

A 3.1 GPA and a 21 ACT. UC has a 67% acceptance rate. The middle 50% of UC for ACT scores is 22-27, so 25% of admitted students scored below a 22, and 25% scored above a 27. According to College board, 30% of students admitted had between a 2.5 - 3.24 GPA.

It’s going to be a long shot. Keep in mind the bottom 25% of public schools often include special admits and/or athletes. A high standardized test score often makes an upward trend be a positive, but you don’t have that. If you could get a 24+ on your ACT retake you’d have a much better chance.

Thanks so much. What else can I do to increase my chances?
