I will have 4 years of wrestling by the end of my senior year. I’m not the best, I’m JV right now, but can easily get a even or winning record on varsity my senior year. I live in Illinois and compete in Dupage Valley Conference, and it is probably one of the hardest conferences in the country. My coaches have told me that IL is one of the hardest states for high school wrestling too, but I don’t think i can qualify for state even my senior year. Thinking of joining varsity football and track my senior year because of the extra time I’ll have
Mile time: 7:20 - I could probably shave off a good minute by next year
Sit ups: Whatever the max is
Push ups: 75 easily
Pull ups: 15
40 yd dash: ~4.8
100 ft basketball throw: I would predict 100 ft at least

Extra curricular:
Piano IMEA testing for 9 years/10 levels.
Scholastic Bowl: Member
Youth Symphony Orchestra: Audition group, 3 years
Rotary club: member, i have about 40 hours total volunteer. I’ll continue senior year and hopefully hit 100.
DECA, a business club: member
Mu Alpha Theta, Math Honors Society: Member
National Honors Society: member
No record of any disciplinary action

I’m Asian too, but not an immigrant. Will this give me an advantage, disadvantage, or nothing? I know some schools still have quotas, and others look for more diversity. I have also been told about a letter of recommendation written by a congressman is required. Is this true? I know that I need more leadership skills and I’m trying to get into higher ranks in the clubs I’m in. I could probably get letters of recommendation from a science teacher, orchestra director, and Latin teacher. Online acceptance rates this year have been pretty low, around 8% or 9%. Why is this? The academic requirements aren’t extremely high, so are sports taken into account very seriously? Thanks to anyone who responds to my questions.

No one can chance you for West Point or any other school. Apply and you will know your chances when you get your decision.

You do not need a letter of recommendation from a congressman; you need a nomination from a member of congress to the academy to which you want to attend. You need to look at the websites for the congressperson for the district you live in as well the two senators who represent your state. The sites will tell you how to apply for a nomination from those sources. You can also apply to the Vice President and the President for a nomination if you qualify for those sources. You need at least one nomination for your application to move to the admissions pool for the academy you wish to attend. Without a nomination, your application is dead.

Also, if by some miracle you happen to know a CMH recipient. They can nominate you.

Only the Children of a Congressional Medal winners are eligible for a nomination through that source.

I’m in the USMA Field Force and live in Naperville. Send me a PM if you want to talk. The next logical step for you would be applying for the Summer Leadership program. The application window opens in January
