Hi! I'm a junior, I have a 3.6 un-weighted gpa and a 3.8 or 3.9 weighted. i am currently taking 5 AP classes and 2 honors. last year I took 1 AP and 5 honors classes. I played soccer freshman and sophomore year (i got a varsity letter in my sophomore year). i also participated in mock trial freshman and sophomore year. I plan on joining NHS next year (I can easily reach the requirements and it's very easy to get in at my school). I don't currently play any sports but if necessary I can do varsity track this spring as well as next year (Would that help improve my chances??). I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet (I am taking SAT next month) but I got a 1980 on my psat.
I really want to go to UNC wilmington but I'm also willing to go to a school in my state (MD) if that would improve my chances. I'm going to major in something science or engineering-related.
Do you think I have a good chance of getting NROTC? I haven't talked to a recruiter yet but I plan on doing so very soon. Thank you so much any advice is greatly appreciated

Forget the chances, go for it – if that is what you want. Your grades and activities definitely indicate that you have the potential for the scholarship. You are not a “long shot.”

However, the NROTC scholarship is not good for UNC-Wilmington (only Chapel Hill, NC State, and Duke). Also, Maryland does not have any NROTC universities at all (but DC has George Washington University). If you want to be closer to Wilmington, consider the University of South Carolina.

Go to this website to see which universities have NROTC:

Majoring in engineering will definitely help your chances. That is what the Navy wants more than anything else. Mechanical Engineering is especially good, but electrical and chemical are good too.

Good Luck!
