Hi! I’m a rising sophomore at Tufts. From what I’ve read, I think that your stats/ECs are pretty solid. While your freshman year grades aren’t the best, I think it’s really encouraging that you’ve managed to improve your academic performance over the past two years. I know that all colleges, not just Tufts, really view upward trends favorably and are less likely to hold a weaker freshman year against you. I’d be interested to know how many APs you are taking this year. Junior year is especially important for college admissions–and course rigor is obviously emphasized. If you are taking at least 3-4 APs this year you should be okay. I would shoot for more next year. Your SATs are fine. Your ECs look good. You’re not in any leadership positions–but neither was I. I really think the emphasis on leadership positions in college admissions is overblown and puts undue pressure on HS kids–but that’s just a personal opinion. Tufts really does emphasize essays–so be very thoughtful about your choice of topic and write them as well and as concisely as possible. Something unique is always appreciated I’m sure, but it’s more important that you write them well. In general I’d say that your chances are decent–but that college admissions are a crapshoot, so I really couldn’t tell you much more than that. I wish you the best of luck with your admissions. My first year at Tufts has been really wonderful, and if you do get a chance to come here, I think you’ll find that the kids here are some of the greatest you could find and Tufts truly is a very happy place to be.

Thanks so much! So are you saying I have a good chance of getting accepted? I just wanted to clarify what you said sorry.

With thousands of application for only a certain amount of spots, kids with your stats will be rejected as often as they are accepted. If you work hard on the application though, I would say that yes, you have a pretty good chance of being accepted. How many APs did you take this past year?

I am taking 3 AP courses in my junior year, and my sophomore AP test i got a 5

Ok that should be fine.
