I’m going to be a freshman at UTSA (no cap) and my family wants me to transfer to UT asap. I currently have 15 credits for my core classes through AP and dual credit but unfortunately didn’t score high enough on chem and bio to receive the important credits (4 chem and 5 bio)
Here’s a list of classes that I have credit for
RHE 306
RHE 309K (is this a writing flag course?)
GOV 312L
ECO 304L
HIS 315L (3 on APUSH)
HIS 301F or 301J (4 on WHAP exam)
BIO 301L (3 on BIO)
CH 304K (3 on CHEM)
Here are the classes I will take at UTSA this fall (translated using UT’s course equivalency
UGS 3 SIG
M408N (calc 1)
HIS 315K
MUS 303P
GOV 3 TX
I decided not to take bio or chem because both my advisor and UT’s website recommended that I don’t take these classes at different institutions, however I feel like I may not be able to transfer due to these missing classes. With my dual credit classes, I’ll start this year of with a 3.5 but my goal is to bring it up as much as I can. What are my honest chances of getting into UT CNS for Spring 2019 as a Public Health major and Biochemistry as the second choice?
I’ve volunteered at multiple elementary schools but overall my EC’s are average but I spent a lot of time on my essays and I’m proud of them. Wrote a total of 3.
Also a Hurricane Harvey victim
Got a job to help pay for recovery but no dip in grades from HS
Don’t be too hasty to transfer to UT. That school is hyper-competitive and unless you’re chosen for business, engineering, nursing, CS, etc in advance before starting your freshman year, you stand very little chance of getting into an employable major. Look at the admission requirements for McCombs business school, for instance. If you really want to go there, then stay at UTSA and do your prerequisites for the major you want, then apply to UT and see if they let you into that major. If not, then you’ll be just fine at UTSA. It’s a great school!
its more of family pressure but thx for the reply. If I stay at UTSA for spring, will it be fine if I take chem, calc 2 and possible calc 3 and bio during spring and summer for my fall transfer? I’ve heard that calc is really hard at UT and it should be a breeze at UTSA.
I took calculus there. It’s not a breeze either way. As long as the classes have the TCCN, you should be fine. I would make an appointment with an adviser at UTSA, and they should be able to let you know for sure. Both schools are in the UT system, if I’m not mistaken, all general classes should transfer as an entire block. Be sure you can get into the major you want before you even THINK about transferring, otherwise you could get screwed big time.
Hey, I want to transfer to Public Health as well… Let me know how that works out for you and if you get in or not. I am planning on applying for Fall 2019.
