Hi, I am an international student who will be graduating from ABET accredited US institution. My university has no reputation on my field though. I am majoring electrical engineering with GPA 3.8. My GRE verbal is 50%, quant is over 90%, and awa is 3.0. I also have three strong letter of recommendation with good Statement of Purpose (I got revised with 9 different people, and they all liked my SoP). I also have a year of research experience with 3 months of TA experience. I applied PhD degree for 9 schools for ECE. They are:
Cornell
UT Austin
UW Madison
Dartmouth
Arizona State
Texas A&M
Purdue
Ohio State
CU Boulder
What are my chances for these schools?
You certainly are very competitive for Arizona State and Texas A&M at the very least. Your verbal GRE may be an obstacle for the most selective of your list simply because they might cut on GRE scores to reduce the number of applications. If your professors have any contacts at these schools, they might be willing to put in a good word.
Your GPA is good and your research experience is also. It does not really matter what the reputation of your undergraduate program is in your field as long as it has an ABET accredited program. This is really more about your achievements.
Thank you for your input, I was very worried about getting rejected from all of them because I am applying everywhere for direct phd from B.S. I heard applying for direct phd is so much more competitive than applying MS. I did not want to apply MS because my dream is being a professor, so I need a phd degree anyway; funding for phd degree is a lot better than MS degree.
