My GPA may be a little low, but I think my classes make up for it...Gov. School and 10 AP/Dual Enrollment courses in high school...

PLEASE GIVE ME SOME POSTS!! any info. helps!! Be honest...Thanks!

IMHO, 26 is low for UVA. Can you take it again? Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? Your class rank and your ECs are good. Unfortunately, instate legacy (parents only) does not confer any advantage. So I'd say UVA is a reach for you. Let's see what others think.

yea 26 is a little low, but when I talked to admission they said between 26-29 is about the middle 50%...so..idk
they said I have about a 50/50 chance of getting in...I'm not taking it again...They don't accept it after January...UVA has always been my number one school..I've always thought I was gonna get in, but IDK now......I believe that's weighted, but it's basically the same unweighted...

Your chances aren't great. You will be at the low end of competitive instate applicants, but it's possible that you will be accepted. Definitely get your SAT score up. If you're going to compete at a university like UVA (or W&M, where you should also apply), you should be able to answer enough questions correctly on the ACT to get higher than...26.

Thanks for the info...Another thing, you all might find this hard to believe, but 26 is one of the highest ACT scores in my school....the number 1 and 2 got 27, 28..the University knows my school doesn't have any practice classes, guidelines because our school is so close to the University...
I feel my chances are around what Admissions said..50/50, but please more replies will help! Thanks!

Pats4life: I liked several things about your summary. Your GPA might seem a little on the low side, but if you take your class rank into account, it shows that you are at a highly competitive school and that you are doing well. I think it was smart to get LOR's from alumni and from community mentors; you live close enough, that UVA might recognize these people as pillars of the community.
UVA is good to it's Virginian students (and OOS for that matter)! But I think that the extreme legacy history that you have is remarkable. You should talk about it in your essays; don't be shy, tell them about your Virginia heritage and how proud you'd be to be a student at Mr. Jefferson's Academical Village. Tell them how important this is in your soul.
You've got some unique EC's, you've taken very rigorous courses in HS. I like your truly Virginian experiences like the Carter's Mountain Orchard work. Embellish it; you are a Virginian!
I'm betting you are in!

Thanks a lot JimmyJam...a true Virginia Gentleman...
I am done with the application and submitted it last week
that's all my essays were! I told them how bad I wanted it...and the importance of my family going there...I feel like I have a solid chance and I'm glad someone agrees.....you obviously know a lot about the University and understand one's love for UVA...CARTER'S MOUNTAIN BABY!! you know how we do...I also do the UVA club and have a lot to do with the Alumni Assoc.
Thanks for the post and pray for me to get in next year!

oh man you are hilarious...you know what I know you're just trying to **** me off and that's okay because 1..UVA wouldn't want you at their school and 2..no one on here likes you..so just shut the **** up and don't reply again...and yes my DADDY went to school here and MOMMY and GRANDADDY and COUSIN...they all deserve it and you don't know **** about me so don't say I don't deserve it...

wow I am sorry but the way you two are acting, neither of you are mature enough to get in! This is a stressful time for everyone and throwing out accusations and name calling is NOT going to make it any easier.

Anyway as for the original post...me and you are in the same boat, except I got a 25, I just retested last weekend though. Did you take the SAT? I would send those scores too if they are better. I am going to tell you what I heard at the UVA info session at my school. The counselor told us that the SAT is considered, but it is not everything. They understand that it is just a test and that a rigorous courseload accounts for more. Your AP classes will definitely play in your advantage, so will the legacy! I would say make sure to write really good essays but it seems you have that covered! In the meantime see if you can ask your guidance counselor stats of people who got accepted last year...about 7 people went from my school last year and their stats are the next to the best thing about seeing chances! Anyway hang in there...

Legacy doesn't help instate students. Only OOS students get a boost because they are considered as instate with legacy. But good advice about comparing your stats with students accepted last year.

your right guys and I apologize for being such an ass....this guy was really ticking me off...Legacy always helps...trust me..They may tell you it's only a 2% difference in in-state and legacy, but it sure is more than that...I just know because my grandfather was on the admissions board for a few years and he said they have to say those stats because of their funding from the state for being a public school...idk that's just what I heard..thanks guys for the advice..I will definitely check that out..I believe only 3 got in last year from my school and 2/3 were valedictorian and the other had a 32 on his ACT...I feel my chances are pretty good and it's by far my number one choice and always has been, ever since I was young boy growing up in Charlottesville

In order to give you some data I converted you act score - 26 to SAT scores so I could look you up on some scattergrams. I used the most economically diverse school I could so that the scores wouldn't come from a place were people take tons of test prep.

Here is what I found.
On the 1600 scale a score of 26 on act = 1170-1220 on sat
On the 2400 scale a score of 26 on ast = 1770 sat
Using this data and your 3.65 gpa you are not in a happy place. At the intersection of this data (sat/gpa)there were mostly rejections, a few deferrals but no admits.

You area might have a different standard base upon geography, so I wouldn't take this as gospel but as a measuring stick. How about Golf, can you parlay yourself in based upon those skills? A needed athlete gets some serious breaks IMO.
Good luck to you!

yea I'm a really good golf player...all-district for 2 years..and my school is pretty stupid..i think maybe 5-6 people will get into UVA..3 of them being the top 3 in the class, but from my school a lot of people get in..believe it or not..I may have a better chance than the 2/3 top students because they don't have EC's and NO LEGACY!! no one has legacy in my school..it's pretty sad..IDK I'm gonna be really choice..I think I need more opinions...THANKS!!

you don't deserve to go to virginia because you did not work hard enough

i sympathize for you on your act score, cause some brilliant people just don't test well
this college may be your number one choice, but just because you want it doesn't mean that you need it

your work ethic is demonstrated by your gpa- if u try yur ass off at every subject, you should at least have a 3.85 gpa- colleges will see your low gpa and high number of ap's and conclude that you do not know your limits

and don't tell me your ec's had you overwhelmed soooo much that your gpa began to fall, cause other people managed to do much more, although you have a lot, and maintain gpa

also, it might be that you have a great work ethic, and you just can't come to the realization that you're not smart enough- i went through this process when i figured out i wasn't getting into yale no matter what

this takes a long time to comprehend, but some people are just naturally smarter than others- my dad scored 1600 on the sat in rural ohio, a small ass town with no resources whatsoever

instate legacy will get you in, but i expect that
you will have trouble keeping up with the other kids academically once you get in no need to bash me here, cause i wasn't the one who started bashing you

if you go back and look at the posts, i made a comment, then you made an insult, then i made another comment, you started bashing, i began bashing

I told you I don't really care what you think MichaelJackson
now you think I'm gonna get in? Earlier you said I wasn't?? what's your real answer??? I don't understand why u're being such an ass about this conversation

that's not being an ass- that's being rational

this is being an ass

I told you I don't really care what you think MichaelJackson
now you think I'm gonna get in
nice grammar- really showed through on those act's of yours

but im not attacking that

and i think you will get in because you are a legacy, not because of your stats.
but you will have a hard time keeping up academically once at college
