So I am a junior this year who is taking dual enrollment classes at my local community college and have a 3.7 nonweighted gpa. My old SAT score is 2090/2400 but will take the NEW SAT to get a better score. However, I don’t have time to do a lot of extracurricular since my dual enrollment classes take up my entire weekdays. I still do some extracurriculars over the weekend though. Will my lack of extracurriculars be held against me even though I am a dual enrolled student.? If so, what UCs or Cal States I have a chance to get in? Thanks for reading.
Your GPA and SAT make you a solid candidate for all the UCs and Cal State schools. However, the top ones (SD, LA, and Berkeley) may be out of reach without extracurriculars. Perhaps you have interests of yours that you could emphasize? If not, you may be forced to look at some of the mid to lower UCs. You should still be a good candidate for the top Cal States though (LB, Fullerton, SD).
Cal states do not consider EC’s in their admission review only your CSU GPA and Test scores. Cal Poly SLO is the exception but EC’s only account for around 10% of the MCA points in their admissions. UC’s will expect some EC’s and as noted above ^^^ the more selective the UC, the more important EC’s will be become in their application review. Even UCSD states that 50% of the UC application review is based on GPA/Test scores and HS course rigor and the other 50% is EC’s and essays.
Sorry, typo:: It is UCSB that uses 50% stats and 50% EC’s/essays in their application review.
