Hello, I am currently a junior in highschool in Texas pursuing a major of economics and to do that I have to get into the college of liberal arts at UT. So here are my Stats:
GPA:
6.4/6.57(Our school is weird just know I’ve made 6 B’s)
Rank- TBD (Unlikely to be top 7%)
ACT:
33
English:35
Math:34
Reading:33
Science:31
EC: Shadowed a cardiologist and business executive for more than 100 hours. Started my own fundraiser and raised in total $10,000 for a cancer patient. Varsity basketball for 2 years. Speak 5 languages(from Pakistan). NHS member. Student council representative. President and founder of dodgeball club. Vice president/secretary of Muslim Student Association. Volunteered almost 150 hours. Etc.
Ik my GPA and rank is not great at all, but I feel like my EC’s and ACT score will boost my application a bit. What do ya’ll think my chances are?
I’m literally in the exact same boat shooting for the COLA at UT this upcoming fall. I also have a 33 ACT and am probably in the top 20% of my class. Here’s what I know:
-the college of liberal arts is not the most competitive school at UT, so its not as hard to get into as business or comp sci. Therefore, your scores are probably much higher than other people who apply to the COLA who probably get around 30’s or 31’s. Also, as long as you have some solid EC’s that showed commitment (which it looks like you have), that will help. I’ve taken 13 AP classes so I hope that helps my case, make sure since you’re not in the top 10% that you’ve maxed out your secondary school rigor and taken the hardest classes to show you are capable of handling such a heavy course load. I would say the two of us are in the exact same boat, so therefore I would say you have about a 70-75% chance. Also essays have a big say in this all. Good luck, and I hope I get in too!
@oakland818 Honestly you don’t know how good it feels to have another person in the same boat as me. Thank you for the reply and Good Luck!
@MambaMentality @oakland818 You guys have some pretty good scores for COLA. Ensure that you two have robust applications (good essays and at least 2 recommendations, etc) and I honestly believe you guys have a real shot. Good luck!
