What are my chances to transfer to a top 5 University?

I just completed my freshman year at UMaryland College Park. I am looking to transfer at the end of next year. Right now my GPA is 3.9, but for safety sake let's assume it is a minimum of 3.8. I am looking at Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UPenn, and Columbia. I would only transfer to a really good school because I would have to go in to debt to do it. My SAT score is 2310 (800 Math) and my ACT score is 34 (36 Math). I took 7 AP tests and got five 5s and two 4s. I was president of finance of the largest Youth for Ron Paul chapter in the country. I have a few other leadership positions in different organizations as well. I have already done one internship in asset management. I will do another part time one during the school year. I am looking to transfer into Econ and my grades in Micro and Macro were A+ in both. My GPA in high school was a 3.2. There was however an upward progression if that makes a difference. What are my chances? I will spend time with all of the influential professors and make sure I get good recs. Also if I were to have been accepted to a top line internship at an investment bank like Goldman Sachs or an asset management firm like BlackRock, would my chances be substantially increased? Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes I did just steal that from The Wall. Someone please respond. I’m sitting in my cubicle now and am quite bored…

I would recommend going to the website of each school and reading statements about transfer policies and procedures. These schools accept VERY FEW transfers. Very few. Harvard just announced that it accepted 1% of those who applied for transfer for fall 2012. Statistics are probably similar for MIT, Stanford, Columbia, and UPenn (especially Wharton). I would advise aiming more “broadly” and not just focusing on the absolute top tier schools, as your chances of transfer admission are very slim, just by the nature of sheer competitiveness. Not saying don’t apply. Saying have no expectations and, thus, plan accordingly. Good luck.
