Let’s break it down…

“4.0 GPA unweighted”

Solid. No need to worry. Just keep it up.

“6/512 rank at a respectable public school in Texas”

Again, no need to worry.

“PSAT-214 possibly finalist, we dont know yet”

Solid again. I hope you make semifinalist.

“SAT- dont know but shooting for approx 720s across the board”

Then you are good to go, assuming you accomplish that goal.

“White male, so i cant pull the diversity card”

:3

“BAND: I play trumpet in the marching band, concert band, and for the school musicals

You must practice many hours! Good for you. I think this will help if you are consistent during your last two years in HS.

“EXTRA C’s: Youth and Government, Youth Advisory Council (City Hall intern basically), Boys State, NHS, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, NERDS (math tutoring club), Academic Decathalon, Church Youth Leader”

You asked for my opinion… so here it is. Maybe some will tell you that you’re not doing enough. Mine is quite the opposite. I think your ECs are insane, man. You’re doing too much; your activities are all scattered. Pick a few that are absolutely important to you.

“SPORTS: Varsity Track and Cross Country junior year and will do the same senior year”

Again, opinion only. Track or CC but not both. Unless you have all the time in the world, then by all means continue to join both.

“COURSE DIFFICULTY: Almost as many Pre-APs and AP’s as possible Iv taken 12 in 3 years so far”

12 is more than enough already. Take some time to think about your academic preferences. What are you good at? What do you see yourself majoring in (at this time)? Choose APs that align with your interests, perhaps more so than your abilities. 3-5 AP courses in high school is already a pretty good goal.

“if you respond, thanks very much!”

:-) I know what I have given you, but I do not know what you have received.

Alright well thank you very much, i received much! Yeah my counselor to focus on a smaller number of EC’s and pursue each in greater length. And just for clarification, CC is first semester, track is second, so doing both is no trouble at all. Thanks again

everything looks good +being out of state could possibly help your chances.

Ignore what Kbar100 said - he/she clearly doesn’t really know much. The vast majority of Brown applicants are out-of-state; Rhode Island is tiny!

Well everything is in order (If you do well enough on you SAT I and II)…so all it will really come down to is your essay. I recommend looking at the prompts when you are a rising senior (in the summer). Think about your answers for awhile and write a solid essay.

If you know about the essays that far in advance, you can actually plan something in your summer that you can write about! You may also consider taking a few practice SAT tests or buying a review book while you have the free time. I never prepared for the SAT and got the 2160 you’re shooting for, but I wish I would have studied like a lot of others did. I would have done loads better!

Good luck - stay on top of things and I think you’ll be find!

@bruno14
statistically, i’m correct. from texas. stellar grades. good ec’s. looks like a good chance.

you don’t think this guy has a good chance?

I smell a ■■■■■.

Kbar100: I was talking about the out of state giving him/her a good chance. The rest of the app looks fine - I don’t chance people on principle. In state/out of state means basically nothing for Brown.

bruno is right, in/out state makes no difference. Even if there IS a difference, it’s almost ALWAYS better to be in state rather than out of state. Look at Princeton, for example. They accepted 184 kids out of NJ last year.

In the in/out state case, kbar100 is WAY off.
