Oh yeah, plus class rank is 22/507
Thanks!

If it matter, my grades have really improved havent made a B all year after a sophomore slump even though my class are way harder.

take the SAT again and you’ll be good, especially if you’re not from texas

Improve on your SAT and make sure the rest of your application is strong. Other than that, you are in range to get in.

Good Luck!

:( I am from Texas. Want SAT score would put me in safe range. 2100-2200?

For a school of Rice’s caliber, you are almost never in a “safe” range. However, you can look up Rice’s middle 50% for the SATs and ACTs to get an idea of how you compare to the student body. If you are in that 50% you are definitely in that range, although of course the higher the score, the better.

I am blanking out right now, but I want to say Rice’s middle 50% is somewhere along the lines of 2100-2250 or so. I am probably wrong.

Good luck!

I’m scared cuz our school valedictorian sat 2100+ got waitlisted… Maybe it’s cuz he’s asian ;)

The SAT is only one of many factors used in determining admission. The higher you go, the better but there is not a magic number that will either get you or take away an admission.

I got less than a 2000 on my SAT score and got in, so yes, it’s possible to get in with a low SAT score. There is no “safe score”, in my opinion. You should just study and do your best on your SATs, but don’t kill yourself for a perfect score. I have seen people with close to perfect scores, but didn’t receive admission to Rice. That being said, I personally believe the essays are the most important element to your application.

I highly doubt you’ll get in with less than a 2100 (700 min. on each section) on the SAT. To be honest, with any school as competitive as Rice, there is no sure shoe-in. Try your hardest and see what happens! Be sure to have backups.

FYI: 25% of the freshman class have scores less than a 31 ACT (1380 CR + M). Some of these are athletes and have other hooks, but not all. I believe that Rice looks at much more than ACT/SAT stats and that essays and (especially) class rank can compensate for lower standardized test scores.

That is NOT true, I knew 2 boys at my kids HS got in MIT with ~1900 SAT, they were also accepted to Rice and other great schools too. One of them participated in First Robotics.
So SAT score is not that critical.

Again, if your application is very strong in ever aspect other than the SAT, you have a good chance of getting in. Some people just aren’t good at standardized tests.

As always, having a higher score helps. It is not the only thing that counts though.

Rice is my first choice if I don’t make it, I’ll go to ut

Make sure rice knows that. Demonstrate interest and show Rice that you really want to be there

Just do your best to get the highest SAT score possible. Aim higher than you expect! Remember, 100 points is just the difference between a few extra right answers. Also, write really good essays. Don’t wait until last minute, keep writing drafts and drafts and drafts and get different people to edit them! It really does help.

Your from Texas? You’re gonna need to bring up that SAT score of your a bit! You seem like a good applicant otherwise :D

I got into Rice from Texas with an SAT score of 1960 (then again, my ACT was a 32) and I’m not a valedictorian either (22/637). I never really focused all that much on standardized tests (took them all only once because they annoy me :P). Really, instead of focusing so much on standardized tests I would just concentrate on your essays and extracurriculars, because those are what really decide whether you get in or not.

Lyemi123 - What kind of extracurriculars did you have? And what would you say are the kinds of things that made Rice take notice?

yeah test scores aren’t everything but they are an important factor…
