What are my chances?

I made a post about this awhile ago, but I wanted to give a more updated look.
Grades and rank: 96 uw, 105 w, and ranked 8/404 as of Sopomore year. Junior Year- 98 uw, 107 w, rank either went up or stayed the same. The classes are all honors and AP, including scores: APUSH(5), AP Euro(5), AP World(4), AP Lit(3), AP Bio(3).

Senior Schedule- Includes all honors and 3 AP's(Macro, Lang, and Calc AB)

Test Score: ACT-26( I'm going to retake, I know it's not top notch )

Extra Curriculars, Volunteer, and Awards: JV Baseball two years, one year on varsity(hopefully two), symphonic orchestra since 4th grade(first chair viola), treasurer of Symphonic Orchestra, former Vice President of Intel Science Club and created a project for Long Island's competition, NHS member(going to run for officer), Foreign Language Honor Society, School Tour Guide, over 100 hours of Volunteer Service(with various groups), and helped create a book for Armed Service members that gets circulated to veterans and current soldiers. I have won 3 awards at my school for excellence in English, Italian, and Pre Calculus.

I plan on majoring in something like Poli Sci, History, or International Relations/Politics/Studies

I'm not looking towards Newhouse, just the majors listed. So what do you think my chances are and would an interview and visit help in anyway?

Bump anyone?

Bump10char

Anyone at all?

I have similar scores, higher ACT, but lower rank and GPA. People have told me I should be alright so I’d assume your fine to. Which college are you applying to at SU?

College of Arts and Sciences.

Same as well. Maybe we’ll see eachother there!

Very nice. I need to visit the school soon!

Bump…

Bump. I just want another opinion before my power goes out b/c Irene.

Even with your low ACT score, I think you have a decent shot. The other day I was talking to the mother of a girl who goes to syracuse and she said when they visited the admissions officers said they do look at scores, but they don’t care about them as much as most colleges.

(: Good luck!

Thanks for the reply =)

Sorry to rehash this old thread, but for some updates: I know have a 28 ACT(29 Superscore), ranked 6/400, my weighted GPA is 106, I won some more awards including AP Scholar with honors. I also am interested in possibly double majoring in International Relations and Journalism. Will I have any shot at Newhouse? If it helps I visited and have an interview planned.

Bump…

You applying regular or early decision? Regardless of however you apply, I can’t see you getting denied from Syracuse…

I applied RD. I just wanted to know if I had any shot with a double major in International Relations and a journalism type major in Newhouse. I Newhouse is way harder with admissions.

Bump…

International relations is in Maxwell, i think…Does SU have a dual enrollment program Maxwell/Newhouse? If not, they may accept you only into Maxwell if you put that as second choice…

Not sure if you can double as a freshman without a dual enrollment…

Thanks for the reply. I’m getting disheartened again. Another school I apply to has allegations of sexual abuse.

Although it’s not straight forward to find this out on syr.edu, I’m 99% sure all Maxwell programs are graduate only. That is degrees given by Maxwell. But hold on, undergrads have many many options for classes in Maxwell, including Poly Sci (my son - he loves it), IR, and several others fields of study. Your home room is likely CAS, as in Poly Sci.

Another point that really applies to all potential students, this is a good opp for you to call SU and talk to someone at the university on these points and questions. This will help with your “demonstrated interest”, and your basic understanding of the SU offerings. In my opinion, the demonstrated interest helps SU not only determine admission decision, but also merit scholarship awards.
