Your UW GPA is a little low (you should be at 3.5 or higher) but since you applied early it should be ok, esp. since your classes were mostly honors/AP.

Your SAT is a bit low-- you’d want your math to be 600+, although the combined M/CR is above the 1200 threshold…but not by a lot. Looks like you did much better on the ACT, so that’s good!

The rest of your application looks good-- leadership & involvement are good.

Overall I think you’ll be ok getting into A&S, since you applied early, but you might have to wait a bit longer to hear back.

How much longer will it take for me to hear back?

I don’t know. Generally, the first round of students to hear back (in October) are the super-amazing, definitely in, ridiculous stats kids. Since Pitt is rolling, there is no definitive hear-back date, although I assume you would know before January.

Are my stats really so low that even with applying so early I still won’t find out in October?

No, but I don’t think that EVERYONE who applies throughout the summer/September will all hear back the very first round at the beginning of October. Like I said, the super stellar kids will hear first, and then everyone else. Depending on how many people apply early, and what their stats are like, I think you’ll hear back sometime between mid-October and December. Hopefully sooner, but you never know.

So do you think there’s a chance I could be deferred, or is it just whether or not I’ll hear back on my acceptance early in October or later on?

The only thing making me a little hesitant is your slightly lower UW GPA. I think you’ll hear back with a yes, but probably later on.

Okay, thank you so much!

sort of a random question, but do you think being Jewish will help me at all (with wanting to diversify and such)?

No. I think they qualify Jewish as only a Religious Affiliation, which is not considered in your application. Your ethnicity would still be Caucasian. (source: http://www.ir.pitt.edu/cds/documents/CDS2010-11PittsburghCampus.pdf</a>)

Interestingly enough (not sure if you’re from the area) Pittsburgh has a LARGE Jewish population, especially right nest to Oakland in Squirrel Hill. So…you’re not even really a minority!

don’t worry…I think people over-estimate at times what it takes to get it. I applied during the summer before my senior year with a 3.49 GPA and a 1930 SAT and a range of activities but nothing excessive…and I got notified by October. The earlier you apply, the more likely you are to get in!
